It may not be much on this slow news morning but Sony Pictures has released their first gift to fans eagerly awaiting The Green Hornet. While the film is still two years away from hitting theaters, the studio has given the media what looks to be their first official logo for the upcoming hero adaptation. Perhaps, an official website is coming soon? The character, previously played by Bruce Lee, is now being overseen by Seth Rogen and his partner Evan Goldberg as screenwriters. Previous reports have Rogen wanting martial arts star Stephen Chow in the role of Kato but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

Plot Summary: "The Green Hornet" made his debut on January 31, 1936 on WXYZ Detroit, the creation of the station's George W. Trendle and Fran Striker, who also created the Lone Ranger. The series, which ran until 1952 on the Mutual and NBC Blue networks, followed the adventures of Britt Reid, a bored playboy whose life is changed when he inherits his father's crusading newspaper, The Daily Sentinel. He saves the life of Kato, a Japanese man with incredible technical and martial-arts skills, who becomes Britt's closest ally -- and transforms Britt's car into the supercharged Black Beauty, which gives them an edge as they search for evidence to expose the city's underworld in the newspaper. When Britt and Kato witness a brutal mob hit, Britt invents his secret identity -- taking his name from his powerful car's defective horn. A skilled fighter and expert marksman, the Green Hornet uses two special, non-lethal guns to subdue criminals: one fires a potent knock-out gas while the other produces the "Hornet's Sting" -- an electric shock.

The Green Hornet will hit theaters June 25, 2010.

Bruce Lee played Kato, not the Green Hornet. Still not sure if Rogen is the best person for this movie.

Since the first spiderman movie in the 70's, to Captin America to the new spiderman to the xmen and iron man, I have watched the evolution of the superhero movie. I have watched some truely bad movies, yes even the 1st Fantastic Four movie. Some of them have made me want to slit my wrist. Others have induced a feeling that hanging would be easier than watching. In recent years the movies have gotten better and better. There have been a few hick-ups. Butt all in all, most of the new wave of movies have been great. If Seth Rogen plays Green Hornet, that is all going to be gone. There will be no hope, except maybe the Avengers movie, or maybe a Justice League movie.

Wow, major error there, it's even called the Kato show in China (japan too?) for Bruce playing KATO.

For the record, Van Williams played the Green Hornet on the old tv show. Bruce Lee played his sidekick.

Actually the official website is up at http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/thegreenhornet/ of course there's nothing of interest there, just the logo.

lovedeath, I agree with you somewhat. I just can't see this fat guy actually playing the GH. I don't care if he hits the gym or not I don't think he'll be able to get rid of his fat face. Which at the end of the day is going to look comical even though he says it's not going to be a comedy.

Maybe with really low expectations we'll be surprised.

I just cringe each time I read about Rogen being The Hornet. I think it is just bad casting plain and simple. I am also worried that they (Rogen and his partner) will want to make it more comedic than anything else (in which I cringe even more since his humor is flat and crude to begin with… granted some funny thing here and there but not enough).

I’m holding out hope here. I know Rogen seems like a stretch for this but I think he can pull it off as long as he gets into shape. I think he has more than just Judd Apatow comedies in him. I believe it's already been discussed that this will be more of a serious hero flick with some comedic elements as opposed to a comedy or genre spoof. The property isn’t anywhere as well known as most of the other superhero stuff being developed lately so I think there’s a level of freedom in developing the project inherent in that. Less expectation from stubborn fanboys such as myself. I like the concept of the character and his links to The Lone Ranger. Hope that stuff is kept intact but I suppose that’s more a licensing issue more than anything. I’m cautiously optimistic for this and look forward to the first trailer.

I also give it the benefit of the doubt.Whether there is possible miscasting or not, enthusiasm and passion for the project can always mark the difference in helping a project to succeed. Rogen certainly seems to have the passion and if he can get Chow that would be an inspired choice. Moreso if he can get him to direct.

As for Seth Rogen being just a goofy fat guy, someone had to give funny men Michael Keaton and Tom Hanks a chance to to do serious work and it appears to have worked out well for them.

Amen, monkeyfoot! I'm not saying Rogen will be fantastic, but he's far from the first comedian to be given a shot at a serious role. Now, if they release the first shot of him in costume and he looks like he did in Knocked Up, then I'll be all on board the Rogen Sucks as Hornet bandwagon. I just hope he's hitting the gym...

monkeyfoot is right...I remember when I read that Michael Keaton had been cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman. I couldn't believe what I was reading. There was no way Keaton could pull off the Dark Knight, but we all know he did a great job. Seth really seems to want to make a good Green Hornet, so I'm going to wait to see a trailer.
