Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has picked up U.S. distribution rights for the CG-animated Planet 51 with TriStar Pictures set to release the film, reports Variety. The upcoming Sci-fi film will star Dwayne Johnson, Jessica Biel, Justin Long, Seann William Scott, Gary Oldman and John Cleese. Ignacio Perez Dolset and Guy Collins are producing. Peter Graves, Michael Ryan and Jose Rodriguez executive produce.

Plot Concept: The alien adventure comedy centers on an astronaut who lands on Planet 51 thinking he's the first to set foot on it. To his surprise, he discovers it's inhabited by little green people who live in a white picket-fenced world reminiscent of 1950s America. The film is produced by Ilion Animation Studios.

Planet 51 will hit theaters Nov. 20, 2009.

A film called Planet 51 about humans landing on a planet inhabited by aliens who seem to be us in, let me guess, 1951? Maybe this picture should be called "The Day the Earth got Spoofed."

Sounds like a good concept for an animated film. I'm there.

I saw Wall-E and really like it. My 5 year old thought it was just okay. If you are fat and lazy you may not like the movie.

Who's "ustin Long"?

Also, am I the only one who is really f-ing annoyed by the video on the main page automatically playing every time I'm forced to go back to the main page to find the next story? (since we no longer have the list of the day's top stories on the side of each page)

My 5 and 2 year old kids loved Wall-e. It is a very simple story, simple enough not to be preachy.

For planet 51, I just hope that the message is not "we are all different and should accept us as we are". Almost EVERY cgi kid oriented film has the same message.

Great cast and I love that picture, if the entire movie looks that good I may see it just for the cgi.

Wall E was just ok for me. I hear that fat people are getting offended by it. It seems that you can't make a movie or a statement without offending somebody now a days. Anyway, I rank it at the same level as Cars, which to me was Pixar's worse film. They're good or ok but they just don't measure up to Pixar's other works IMHO.

Yeah, that video is driving me crazy...

Thank God a) I'm not the only one; b) Jarrod fixed "ustin"'s name.

Oh, and speaking of people getting offended, now I hear GLAAD is pissed off because of the scene in Hancock when he says, "Homo. Homo in red. Norwegian homo." They are saying that the scene is saying it's ok to hate gays. No, that scene is saying Hancock is a dick and pretty much hates everyone. Eesh!

Since "51" is prominent in this movie, are there any nuclear blast rides in a lead-lined fridge?

Take the damn autoplay of the video off pls... its making my connection slower and taking to long to load it.

Planet Looks like a good movie.

Saw Wall-E i liked it, i did thing fat people would get offended by it exept Kevin Smith from wut he said in his podcast he would live a future like :P.

About Hancock i didnt find the Homosexual comment offending, it was made to ( Like fft5305 said) make him look more like and A-hole like they said TONS of times in the movie.
