Sony Prez Promises 380 PS3 Titles

Sony is doing serious public relations damage control in terms of their PS3 console after NPD's latest April numbers were released. While the 360 just hit 11 million sales and the Wii is already approaching 7-8 million sales, the PS3 is still fighting to get to 3.5 million (even that number is debatable.). This is corresponding with the Nintendo DS taking the market very clearly over Sony's PSP poor sales.

In "damage control", Sony President Kaz Hirai has gone on public record today stating that the PS3 will have at least 380 new titles for their console by next year. 200 of those titles are planned as box retail titles and another 180 PSN titles.

This is weeks after 3rd party developers like Capcom started to jump ship with some of their exclusive titles opting instead to design Devil May Cry 4 for the 360, Wii and PS3. Other 3rd party developers have been whispering rumors about the same fall out effect.

I love reading about bad PS3 sales. Just makes me that much happier I bought a Wii and 360 for the same price as that single PoS sony console.

regardless of the woes of the ps3 I think it still can be a contender especially after they drop the price like they are going to do and the amount of new games to be released...

Fallensbane...You obviously like your Wii and 360 because your dollar has allowed you the opportunity to buy an affordable system but your analogy of the PS3 being shitty because it's over priced denies you another chance to really own a decent system...Just wait for the price to go down then buy one and see what I mean

Well, for people who have a PS3, this is good news because there will be more games to choose from. I mean, I use fall into the whole argument about which console company is better, Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft, but I just don`t care anymore. Competition tends to bring prices down which is better for the consumer. These days people can actually afford 2 or 3 systems. Of course though, you want to buy the best for your money. I stuck with Sony because of my PS2, like people who continue to buy the same car make. I think though, I might eventually get a 360 on Ebay.

Yes it is good news for those who own a PS3. Of course we have no idea how many of those games will actually be worth playing.

Your right, I should not have said the system is crap. Because it is a solid piece of hardware (besides the fact it looks like a Foreman grill).

It's more or less sony's attitude about the system and those comments way back about how they wanted customers to feel the need to spend more money on their product also pissed me off.

Not to mention the 'cheap' PS3 was actually missing ports and such if I remember correctly, meaning someone who purchase the cheaper model would have to upgrade to a completely new PS3 later if they wanted that functionality? Could be mistaken.

I have no doubt that eventually I will have a PS3. But not anytime soon, the only game currently I am interested in exclusive for the console is the Final Fantasy franchise.

Of course if they ever released a sequel to Legend of Dragoon (from the original PSone) I would have to go steal my buddies PS3 for a week or two and play it :p

"meaning someone who purchase the cheaper model would have to upgrade to a completely new PS3 later if they wanted that functionality?"

Which is no different than the 360 with the HD-DVD stuff, multiple versions, etc. Aren't they releasing a sort of 'ultimate' 360 that will be the same cost as the better PS3?

PS3 is lagging right now, but they'll catch up as time moves on. They may not win the console war, but it's still ridiculous to say it's already over.

I agree Fallensbane. Out of PS2's (supposed) 8,000 titles, how many do you really remember as great (or even good)?

Gee, I wonder why it didn't sell? Could it be the price?
