It seems we have another Will Smith-related item to report this morning though this one is a press release confirming Smith as not attached to star. Smith's production company Overbrook Entertainment and Columbia Pictures is taking on a new spec called The Long Run by Stephen Belber. The trade says Will Smith will produce via his Overbrook production company. Also producing are Overbrook's James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz.

Plot Concept:
The script centers on a journalist who helps exonerate a highly charismatic death row inmate of a crime he didn't commit. When the former inmate is recruited to run for elected office, the journalist leaves his post to orchestrate his rise to political prominence but soon faces a crisis of conscience as he discovers that his friend might be guilty of murder after all.

Hmmm... Original Plot. Perfect setting for tension, drama, and suspense. Now he's a producer moving into the big leagues... GO WILL!!!!

Hmm. Sounds interesting. And not a remake of a 5 year-old Korean movie. And not a "re-imagining" of a 20 year-old TV show. Wonders will never cease.

Hmm...could be an interesting film. Not sure if I could swallow the premise of a former convicted killer running for political office, but if done right I might buy into it.
