Sotheby's Unveils Rowling's BEEDLE Novel

Sotheby's auctioneers displayed a rare copy of J.K. Rowling's book The Tales of Beedle the Bard on Tuesday, ahead of a charity auction on December 13 when the work is expected top fetch up to $100,000.

The volume, bound in brown leather and decorated with a silver skull and moonstones, is a hand-written collection of fairytales mentioned in the Harry Potter author's last wizard saga.

Of the five wizarding fairytales, only one -- The Tale of the Three Brothers -- is told in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Rowling, author of the teenage wizard stories that have sold more than 350 million copies and made her the first billionaire author, has given the other six copies of the book away.

The buyer of the copy on sale will not be given copyright and reproduction will be prohibited. The proceeds will go to Rowling's children's charity.

I find that this is a mistake, Rowling could have made money from this.Yes, Harrys story is finished. At least take another character from it and develop it. As for this single book, millions of people will not get the chance to own it at all.

I'd say there's a high chance this is getting published, Todd. She'll probably wait a year or two so the six hand-written copies can fetch a good dollar amount for the charities..Wait a year and then publish it in mass production since she has retained the copyright/reproduction patent for it.

No, dark jedi, she made 7 copies of "The Tales of Beetle the Bard" altogether. She gave 6 away as a way of saying thank you to people who inspired her during Harry Potter, and she is letting the 7th be auctioned off for charity. She is not trying to sell this book. They are like simple fairy tales. The 7th copy was actually purchased by Amazon.com and it is reviewed on their site along with pictures of it. But she hand wrote and illustrated them all, so no, there will not be more copies made.
