HIGHLANDER: THE SOURCE Hits DVD on Feb 26 - Jan 08, 2008 - 03:13pm
Ugh....this has been languishing in the wings for a couple of years. I think we all know it's going to suck...but we all know we're going to watch it too haha!
Region Free - Jan 08, 2008 - 03:12pm
Oh man...I LOVE RAD. I have the soundtrack. Evidently Talia shire owns the film and I don't think she has a CLUE as to what to do with it.
Smallville: Phantom - May 21, 2007 - 11:18am
that series finale was AWESOME! I've come to realize that this is just a different universe, it's not the same as the comic books and I got to tell you, in a lot of ways it's better.
Supes has been a fun character but, to me, in the comic books he's a bit unmanageable, unrelateable (sp?).
They've done a grand job, especially in the past couple years of bringing in the whole of the DC universe and move Clark to a arena where he can step into the role as Superman. I love it.
And I love Chloe. I'll be pissed if she is dead. But story wise she's the expendable one, her and Lionel.
Lois is not. They've done a great job (and leaves me shaking my head that they don't do it more) creating a cool tension between Clark and Her. A banter that is much better than Clark hiding out as some dunce behind glasses. I'd love to see that love story fleshed out and lana dropped to the way side...
Bizarro was cool. They've always veered away from the traditional form of villains, mxypltyx anyone?
Anyways, I love it. I can't wait for it to return in the fall.
Goyer talks "The Dark Knight" - Apr 10, 2007 - 03:30pm
I can't wait for this flick...seriously. the first one took my fave superhero movies place, superman. LOVE IT!
Jon Favereau talks "Iron Man" - Mar 22, 2007 - 06:47pm
I can't wait to see the Armor. I mean that is just going to whoop...I hope!
"Lost: Enter 77" - Mar 09, 2007 - 12:21pm
No way should it get an A let alone a A+. I mean it was okay, better than most shows out there but in the skein of the actual "lost" shows it was hardly that good.
Locke WAS out of character. He's not stupid but he was acting like it.
and the Sayid flashback was short, ill conceived. They tried to shove a bunch of stuff in it like the subplot with the ping pong game (which I liked) but that along with the flashbacks and the plot, that meant nothing (because can we really trust the eye patch guy at all?).
Also, the flashback shows that Sayid had come to some "humanity" from his former ways BUT we've already seen him torture a couple of people since he's been on the island, so really he was acting out of character as well...
"Heroes" getting major changes? - Mar 02, 2007 - 12:04pm
great frakin show!
I hope that there is a continuing hero though like Jack Bauer (peter peter peter) who strings it all together, but who can say. I'm glad that they aren't going to just carry it on ala LOST that would drive me nuts
"Lost: Tricia Tanaka is Dead" - Mar 02, 2007 - 12:00pm
I liked it. it was better than most shows out there, but this show is just...struggling. I know the ratings are falling and I can see why
2007 Oscar Winners - Feb 27, 2007 - 12:12pm
I knew that Scorcese was going to win when the THREE came out. Is it just me or did George look like he was going to bullfrong and his waddle was going to inflate?
Eddie I think should have won, just because it would have made for a funny speech.
Ellen did a great job I thought, but it's still so dang long!
Aaron Eckhart joins "The Dark Knight" - Feb 16, 2007 - 11:05am
I think this guy is a pretty great actor, so I'm pumped to see what Nolan is going to do with the character.
I don't mind the idea of Black or white playing a role, these are all "alternative" Universes to the comic anyways.
But Billy Dee as Harvey dent was weird insomuch that they didn't keep him as Harvey dent and replaced him with Tommy Lee Jones later on...strange
LOST/Heroes: A Commentary - Feb 12, 2007 - 06:50pm
I agree. republish this article in season three of Heroes and see what we think. Right now Heroes is great, but it's where they take us that really shows the guts of the show. Alias was great....right until the post 2 and 1/2 year mark and the subsequent episodes after that almost destroyed what had gone before. I'm hoping studios will get it into their head that longevity doesn't always equal good, nor more prosperous. Good will and brand recognition (in a good light) will outshine syndication monies in the end (IMHO)
"LOST: Not in Portland" - Feb 09, 2007 - 06:30pm
I'm with ultrazilla. It's just getting tedious especially with 24 or Heroes.
And speaking of which I find myself pissed at the characters on lost and I can only account for the feelings from watching 24. I keep thinking "Start killing people!!!" I mean really. You don't kill anyone they'll come after you, and if anyone deserves to meet Mr. Reaper it's the others
"Heroes: Distractions" - Feb 08, 2007 - 06:10pm
this show just rocks. So good...so far. I love Peter and I want to see Claire's mom yell flame on :)
Shawn Levy to direct "The Flash" - Feb 05, 2007 - 06:57pm
Well maybe it'll turn out alright. I actually liked Night at the Museum and Cheaper by the dozen was tolderable. By far not the best movies in the world, but whatever.
As far as Superman Returns....lame. Talk about taking a character out of continuity. I don't think it was the way they should have went, not after so many years without a superman movie.
AND
Anytime you put a kid...let alone a superkid..in a movie, it's lame. lamelamelame. It's what sequels do when their are no ideas left.
"Smallville: Crimson" - Feb 05, 2007 - 06:54pm
Crap I became the guy who writes an overly long comment. Ack!
"Smallville: Crimson" - Feb 05, 2007 - 05:34pm
I can't disagree with this column more
"The problem is that I remember that first season and the second, the good episodes of the show, and I hold out hope that the creators might get back to that level of quality at some point"
WHAAATTTT!!!???
the first few seasons were some of the most repetitive melodrama I've ever seen. Weekly Krypto persons causing havoc, and the non emotional lana anchoring some sort of love story...boooo!
It was around the second half of the 4th season when things started hopping.
I was so opposed to the introduction of Lois to the point where I stopped watching the show. It was a year and a half later when people were telling me how good it was that I picked it up.
They were right.
Introducing Lois to Clark with a cynical banter that somewhat betrays their attraction is awesome. It's no longer Lois looking at Clark like a buffoon, but as a square and SHE is the mighty one. It's hilarious, and Erica has become the role.
Allison Mack is a goddess.
But they have since then moved the mythology to a point where they could geniunely move the show into a Superman show. He's grown into his powers, come across the Justice League (to a degree) fought Zod, Brainiac, and escaped from the phantom zone. The Daily Planet is huge and Metropolis plays more of a role than smallville does.
the only thing that bothered me about this episode was that it somewhat resucitated the Clark/Lana story, when I could care less. How can I invest in a love story that we ALL know fails?
Emily Blunt in "The Dark Knight"? - Feb 02, 2007 - 12:21pm
Bah, new girl. You don't need Dawes, especially because Joey Potter...errr Mrs. Cruise really didn't do much for me in the first film. We've established she's not the romantic interest, so let's make one. two words...Vickie...Vale.
"24: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM" - Feb 02, 2007 - 12:13pm
24 is grand, grand entertainment. But this season there seems to be a lack of body count (aside from the atomic blast). I mean body count by Jack that is ;)
I need some bad assery soon!
Plus alot of people, ALOT of people wait for the dvd of 24 because it's a blast to watch straight through, so the Neilsens (may they be damned) only tell a small part of the story. When all is said and done we'll see what happens with dvd sales
PLUS...Heroes has jsut started, 24 is in it's what season?
We'll see about heroes ratings if they can make it that long (I hope they do)
Russell Crowe and Universal to make "Nottingham" - Feb 01, 2007 - 01:25pm
I'm one of those people that think Prince of Theives was a really fun movie. I love Robin Hood, it'd be great to see his take.
Warner Bros. acquires another "Wonder Woman" script - Feb 01, 2007 - 01:24pm
I think it's an almost impossible task to make a wonderwoman story, but if there is someone that is going to pull it off, it's Joss. I hope nothings wrong cuz I'd love to see him do this, and well, direct it as well. Here's to hoping!
How to Become All-Powerful Witch and Save the World from Nazis - Jan 31, 2007 - 01:44pm
Ya know what? I apologize. I don't know you, and know little about you. My comment earlier may have been a little bit callous and I apologize (I feel somewhat convicted about it)
"The Dragon Below Trilogy" - Jan 31, 2007 - 01:07pm
Wait, does this actually take place in the Forgotten Realms world?
"Battlestar Galactica: Taking a Break from All Your Worries" - Jan 30, 2007 - 12:00pm
I was a huge Apollo/Starbuck shipper but they blew it. it could have been a really drawn out romantic thing, instead it just became a bit sullied by them lying to their respective spouses.
And what was up with the torture scene. I'm so done with Baltar, and now we have to endure a trial?
Ugh
Unraveling Marvel’s Secret Wars - Jan 23, 2007 - 03:48pm
Yeah there were variations, but these had those holographic shields remember? I loved those.
This just seemed to be the golden age of action figures, between those and the superpowers I had wayyyyy too much fun.
And I liked Secret Wars the comic. I know people bash it, but it was just awesome in my eyes and still is.
What other comic still has residual effects from things that have happened in it? (ala black spidey/venom/carnage)
"The Dresden Files: Birds of a Feather" - Jan 23, 2007 - 03:44pm
I dug it. There's not much genre entertainment, and although it's aggravating when things stray from source material, I've never read the source material sooo....
Does Dresden have that big of a fan base that messing with the character is going to cause as big a backlash as it would messing with Spider man or a Iconic comic hero? I don't know, I'm asking.
Otherwise I dig it. The ending was wrapped up reallllly quick and I'd love to see more of Dresden actually using his powers but...still pretty fun
"24: The First Four Hours" - Jan 19, 2007 - 06:25pm
Love the show.
Dragon...eh, nevermind not worth commenting on.
As for the person not liking Chloe, don't worry she grows on you. I wanted her deeeaaadd when she first showed up, but keep watching.
What I love about the show is that it's very much like a tom Clancy serial.
And I wouldn't be surprised if they killed off Jack at some point. Maybe not this season but it's called 24, not Jack Bauer.
Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn in Cameron's "Avatar"? - Jan 19, 2007 - 06:15pm
I love Biehn. He's always been the bad ass guy that wasn't completely buff. The Everyman that could kill you faster than jack bauer.
I used to pray he'd play Daredevil when i was younger. But alas he's too old.
Meanwhile, at the Hall of Justice - Jan 15, 2007 - 05:31pm
I honestly think I had every one of these at the time.
I LOVED these figures and it was one of the main reasons I started doing a paper route circa 10 years old
How To Survive A Crazy Hollywood Mother - Jan 15, 2007 - 05:27pm
Kids are awesome. We should be having more as a nation in my opinion. I don't feel like getting our culture deleted due to low birth rate (see England). And if you don't like da babies, don't have em. heaven knows if you are coming up with a list like this child rearin ain't for you!
Top Ten Movies You Should Have Seen By Now - Dec 19, 2006 - 01:51pm
I actually liked the movie more than the book. I think the first time I saw it was some Sunday afternoon movie matinee. Pretty cool stuff.
Strange Brew almost had me pee'ing my pants the first time I saw it...seriously.
Three Amigos, Oh man, the singing bush, come on it's great.
But Sleepaway Camp. That ending can never be unseen. And for that it truly is a horror movie
Politics in Comics or The Follies of Didacticism - Nov 30, 2006 - 07:25pm
Yeah I'm a Christian, and what's funny is, I see my faith being trampled on all over the place.
This whole world is on an antagonistic bent, there is an opposing viewpoint to everything.
What's funny to me is people telling people that believe in the concept of "right" and "wrong" that they are wrong, is hysterical just in it's concept.
I don't mind comics being Metaphors for stuff going on. I believe what I believe and it SHOULD be able to stand up to scrutiny by me and by people opposing it. That being said, it does feel like the "voice" used in comics is truly one sided at times. IMHO
"Punisher War Journal" - Nov 27, 2006 - 02:01pm
smegforbrain..that comment cracked me up.
I thought it was a pretty good comic all things considered. And if you read CW 5 then it's funny to see how the heroes react to him coming in.
G.I. Joe, Gaiman, & a Random Rant - Nov 22, 2006 - 10:35am
haha...you know I've never read those books. I keep hoping the series finishes so that I can start them.
As far as Snake eyes...he whups balls.
"The Buffy Files: Chapter 7" - Nov 21, 2006 - 02:04pm
Loved season six but thought that 7 fell on it's face.
Huge fan of Andrew and that's the only thing that kept me hanging on this season.
How To Become A Midwestern Beauty Queen - Nov 21, 2006 - 01:59pm
*still scanning to look for movies and or geek culture somewhere in article*
OHHH wait cute girl + gun club, that must be it
Babylon 5 Back on TV? - Nov 20, 2006 - 04:04pm
I dunno. I think that they ended the series, and the universe to a degree fine.
Though the telepath war would be nice
"Batman #658" - Nov 10, 2006 - 09:02am
Is this supposed to be canonical?
I read it, and there were elements I liked, but mostly I was annoyed by it.
the ending (if it can be construed as that) felt mystifying and disappointing. Nothing solved.
And btw, what's the deal with Robin getting his butt handed to him. This kid is not only trained by Bats but Shiva as well, you'd think he'd have some fighting chops.
Seeking Seven Soldiers - Nov 09, 2006 - 08:19am
I LOVE Secret Wars. As a kid seeing all my heroes in one place versus all the villians.
Annnnd we did get the black Symbiote costume out of the whole thing.
"The Buffy Files: Chapter 6" - Nov 08, 2006 - 08:24am
I was going to say that.
I love this season though watching it was rather depressing when it was airing. But afterwards you see a much more adult buffy.
You are right in likening it to the rise and fall of the Phoenix, never thought of that I guess.
This of course is the last great season in my estimation. 7 is only good for Andrew and it's set up for Angel season 5 (angel ends up being a better show actually)
Seeking Seven Soldiers - Nov 08, 2006 - 08:18am
I dunno about Seven Soldiers, I totally get what you are saying, but not being able to tell a story to a degree that your audience understands it seems to be a failure in storytelling.
I had gotten them for awhile, but then delays and the fact that they made no sense (though they were somewhat a reimaginging of characters ie: Mister Miracle) left me wanting to keep the money for better titles.
Green Lantern is gone from my list now and you guys are right about 52, wth is going on?
"The Buffy Files: Chapter 5" - Nov 07, 2006 - 08:50am
BUFFYBOTT!!!
Plus, this season introduces the one that will be your favorite character FOREVER! Andrew...you don't know it yet, but he is awesome.
Body just astounded me when I saw it. That strange framing that gave you the disconnected feeling of when one of your family dies. Great stuff.
Salvatore, Weis, & Star Trek Ship Guide! - Nov 07, 2006 - 08:47am
Man I haven't read anything I've liked from Weiss or Hickman since Chronicles and Legends
And Salvatore just seems to be retreading on his stuff...but it's still better than most. People should check out his "Highwayman" book which is fairly cool, or the Cleric Quintet.
What should I read next people, what should I read next?
Have you “LOST” interest? - Nov 06, 2006 - 12:55pm
What what whattt! Lastonelives, are you watching Battlestar Galactica? It is pretty much the best show on television, what do you think is better?
As far as LOST, this season whoops buttock over last year, I think. Though LOST drives me unbelievably insane, just because of all the questions it causes, and the fact I feel like they'll never get around to answering them to a degree that is satisfactory. But I can hope can't I?
They should of put a cap on this show like "it'll go for 5 years and then stop". Knowing that would keep people involved. As long as they see an end point. Sorta like 24. You know that in 24 hours it's done, end of story.
"The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause" - Nov 03, 2006 - 12:45pm
Am I the only one that had no idea they were even making a third.
I like Tim Allen, he makes some great "For the Family" fare. I'm amazed however no one has taken him and tried to do some Jimmy Stewart type roles for him ala Mr. Smith Goes to Washington or It's a Wonderful Life
"National Treasure 2" Update - Nov 02, 2006 - 06:22pm
Macgyver already did that bdd :)
I really liked the first one, it's the only close to Indy that I've seen in a long time. Here's hoping the second one is as fun and informative as the first.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Emperor Dragon - Nov 02, 2006 - 06:20pm
Re imagining of a somewhat current film with the same actors??? Does anything sound lamer? Just do a sequel for goodness sake!
"The Buffy Files: Chapter 4" - Nov 02, 2006 - 06:16pm
Season 4 was cool!
This was the beachhead for what would be some of the greatest television. This was the Stage which all the dawn, chip in the head spike, and crazy eps (ala once more with feeling), got to be prepped for take off.
OLDBOY - Nov 02, 2006 - 01:59pm
Great movie that twists your stomach into a horrible knot at the end.
Beware, we are talking "Happiness" type stomach churning
Thank You for Not Smoking - Nov 02, 2006 - 01:51pm
Eh I dig the new design, don't know the real reason behind it. I mean you are distancing yourself from the brand of "Cinescape" aren't you?
Anywhoo.
Marvel blows cheese right now, IMHO. Mainly because they've futzed up continuity so much. I mean I'm enjoying the Civil War line, but how do you come back to Status quo afterwards. Can you EVER get back to where we all don't know that Peter Parker is now Spiderman. It seems when this is all said and done the conflict will disappear and they will have to reboot...again. *sigh*
And this no smoking shizzle is lame, just like Q's decision not to bring anyone back from the dead.
RAMBO IV is a go - Oct 09, 2006 - 07:56pm
I'm there for Rambo, the trailer made me want to crack someone in the head and RAMBO, come on that's just going to whup arse!
Nowhere Man: The Complete Series - Oct 06, 2006 - 04:04pm
Oh yeah "TWON" PEAKS was crazy with the cliffhangers and the not making sense and the...just bustin your balls YE PERSON WITH NO EDITOR!!!
This Week's Premieres in Preview - Oct 02, 2006 - 12:38pm
bah! Stargate is fun. It's not character driven but plot driven fare of the style of the original StarTrek.
Battlestar is AWESOME! So I'm positively giddy at it's re entrance into television land, though I hate the fact the seasons are so flippin short and the DVD's are so flippin costly (I should have used "frakkin).
And Veronica Mars OOhhhh I swoon. She is after all my wife (okay maybe I'm making that up), and the show is stupendous, STUPENDOUS I SAY (even though there a few qualms with last season. It got somewhat convoluted and how many red herrings are there (When you hear the words "red Herring" does it make anyone think of Tim Curry in Clue?)?
And lastly the freakin annoying show called Lost. I love it to a degree of hate. I want to start a petition to get it cancelled merely for the fact I want to see the end and know what the Frak (hah did it!) is going on! Shooot man, that show is going the way of Twin Peaks and by the end did anyone care?
Man I love the fall!
CIVIL WAR - Sep 29, 2006 - 04:36pm
Can we say backfire?
I love the story, and I was one of those people that didn't even want to pick it up, I mean Peter Parker showing his face? Whaaaat!!!? But the story is well written. The problem I see is that this whole thing is writing Marvel into a corner. We will most likely get a infinity crisis ending that reboots continuity, but wait, they sorta did that in Marvel a couple years ago...wait they didn't, or did they? Marvel hasn't kept good continuity since they went bankrupt late 90's. The only ones that seemed to not have been effected was Xmen but there are so many of those titles my brain fries when going to the comic store on Wed.
Bottom line, love the story, but like Twin Peaks, or Lost they are writing themselves into a corner.

Ugh....this has been languishing in the wings for a couple of years. I think we all know it's going to suck...but we all know we're going to watch it too haha!
