Spartan sequel planned for 300?
The Rumor: A sequel is on the horizon for Zack Snyder’s adaptation of the Frank Miller comic 300.
The Source: Producer Mark Canton to SOSHollywood
The Mania Verdict: TRUE---Warner Bros. lists the budget for 300 at $65 million…and it grossed $456 mil worldwide in 2007. The biggest question is whether director Zack Snyder will be back behind the camera.
Josh Jackson is the next Spider-Man?
The Rumor: The former Dawson Creek star Joshua Jackson is slated to be the next man to fill the superhero’s tights.
The Source: Various News Agencies
The Mania Verdict: FALSE---Though Tobey Maguire is still not signed for the fourth film installment, the ball is still in his court to exit. These rumors came from a Josh Jackson interview with MTV on being considered for Batman (before Christian Bale locked it up) and for his part, Jackson was joking about being Spider-Man:
“You know, honestly, out of the big super heroes the guy that I would most naturally be a fit to play is Spider-Man, but that one is pretty well locked up…frankly, I’m too old to play that character because the parable of Spiderman is the teenager going through puberty…That was really subtle of me putting my name in the hat.”
Aliens vs Predator 3 Coming Soon?
The Rumor: A third installment in the AvP franchise is a “certainty.”
The Source: STYD
The Mania Verdict: TRUE---The Strause brothers---directors for Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem---have been very vocal on their plans for a third installment, with the story taking place on an alien planet in the past. They kept the budget for the second installment low at $25 to $30 million, which amounted to profits for 20th Century Fox.
Y: The Last Man Trilogy on the Way?
The Rumor: Director D.J Caruso (Disturbia) is adapting the fan favorite Vertigo comic series into a live action movie trilogy.
The Source: Caruso to MTV
The Mania Verdict: TRUE—While it’s obvious that anyone wants their movie expanding into a trilogy, Caruso is designing the screenplay to represent only the opening of a more ambitious project.
"Where the first movie ends doesn't even relate to the last issue [of the comics] because it's so far down the road," he said. "It hasn't succeeded so far in the screenplay format because everyone keeps trying to throw everything in there. We're only taking this [first] story so far."
Brainiac to Appear in Smallville Season 8?
The Rumor: Super villain Brainiac will take a larger role in the upcoming eighth season of “Smallville”. Actor James Marsters wants to continue playing the character in the next season.
The Source: Various
The Mania Verdict: TRUE---It may just be an actor saying what he wants, but the producers of “Smallville” will have to fill a void now that Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) and Kristen Kreuk (Lana Lang) have left the show as regulars.
