A special edition MOTHMAN just for you

When I first read the script for THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, I became a big fan of the project. Screenwriter Richard Hatem (same guy who created ABC's MIRACLES, a show that's fondly missed) perfectly encapsulated the weird world of the paranormal, delivering solid chills and a heavy duty creep factor. Not all of Hatem's spooky atmosphere was translated into director Mark Pellington's movie but enough was there to provide an entertaining ride at the movies.

When THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES was first released on DVD, the disc was bare bones and contained next to no extras. Columbia TriStar Home Video offers an apology for this oversight with today's release of THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES - SPECIAL EDITION, a two-disc set that provides tons of bonus material about the making of the film as well as info about West Virginia's most infamous monster.

Contained on the disc set is a feature length commentary from the movie's director, Mark Pellington; the film's theatrical trailers; a documentary about the "Search for the Mothman"; two featurettes focusing on Pellington's preparation for making the film, as well as his post-production of it; the "Halflight" music video by the band Low; and 5 deleted scenes from the movie. Missing is a commentary by the film's screenwriter and John Keel, the author of the book that inspired the movie. Still, nobody's perfect.

Priced at $27.95, THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES - SPECIAL EDITION offers more behind-the-scenes information about this underrated supernatural flick. For those of you who enjoyed those episodes of THE X-FILES where there were more questions than answers at the conclusion of the program, MOTHMAN PROPHECIES is worth a look.
