UPN's struggling monster show, SPECIAL UNIT 2, has been scaled back from 22 episodes this season to 13, and probably canceled.
The Hollywood Reporter first tipped off fans to the trouble when they reported UPN had decided not to produce the last nine episodes of the show, which revolves around two Chicago cops who combat demons and monster. The second bit came in a posting from Evan Katz, SU2's creator, on the show's Yahoo message board.
"I could give you a lot of frustrating details, but the bottom line is the new management of UPN feels differently about the show than the old management," Katz wrote. "Our back order of nine episodes has been rescinded... I really appreciate everyone's support for the show, and very much want to hear people's thoughts on the episodes that will air in the next few weeks. And as far as I know, UPN will air all the produced episodes. ... Tonight 'The Straw' aired, and we still have 'The Piper,' 'The Love' and 'The Wish"
Predictably, for a genre show, fans are planning to begin a letter-writing campaign to save the show.
