SPIDER-MAN 2 hits IMAX on July 23

The Imax Corporation and Columbia Pictures made it official today and confirmed that SPIDER-MAN 2 will be distributed globally to Imax theaters beginning July 23. The movie is being digitally re-mastered to suit the Imax screen and sound experience.

In a press release announcement, Imax co-chief executives Richard L. Gelfond and Bradley J. Wechsler said, "Columbia Pictures' entry into the Imax business is further evidence that the Hollywood studios are recognizing the potential of presenting their event films in Imax's format."

"When you have a movie like SPIDER-MAN 2, it makes sense to offer audiences an opportunity to experience the film in this incredible format," added Jeff Blake, Vice Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and President of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution.

After being tipped off by two sources, we first reported that SPIDER-MAN 2 would arrive in Imax theaters last month. Our scoopers told us that the Imax version of the sequel would arrive in theaters on either July 16 or July 23, and they were right on the money.
