Updates:
March 28, 2006 - The teaser trailer for the upcoming movie SPIDER-MAN 3 is now online and can be found here.

March 28, 2006 - MTV talked with Elizabeth Banks, who dished a little on SPIDER-MAN 3. Banks told MTV, "I do definitely sort of explore a little bit more of my relationship with Peter Parker." She noted the groundwork is being laid for a Peter-Betty relationship much like the office romance they shared in the comics. "Peter Parker he actually is Hugh Hefner," she jokingly added. Banks also noted, "They're really exploring the dark side of power, the power a superhero has. Do you use it all for good? That's the question. That's the main theme of the movie." [MTV]

March 12, 2006 - Cliff Robertson told the Palm Beach Post that he received a call to tell him his character, Uncle Ben, would return in SPIDER-MAN 3. Robertson will be back as the "ghostly personae of the murdered Ben Parker," when his part is shot this May. [Palm Beach Post]

January 24, 2006 Theresa Russell has signed to join the cast of SPIDER-MAN 3. She will play the wife of Flint Marko, aka the Sandman. [Hollywood Reporter]

January 19, 2006 Columbia Pictures is in talks with Bryce Dallas Howard to play Peter Parker's love interest Gwen Stacy in SPIDER-MAN 3. The character will be part of a love triangle and she does survive in the story the studio is reporting. [Hollywood Reporter]

May 20, 2005 - Topher Grace has been signed to play one of two villains in the upcoming SPIDER-MAN 3. Grace will be joining the cast which already includes Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, and Thomas Haden Church. [Sony]

March 21, 2005 - Thomas Haden Church, who was most recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Sideways, has been cast as Spider-Man's new archenemy in the next chapter of the Spider-Man® adventure, it was announced by director Sam Raimi and producers Laura Ziskin and Marvel Studios' Avi Arad.

Production on Spider-Man 3 is scheduled to begin early next year.

"In addition to the on-going relationship between Peter Parker and M.J., these films are driven by the great actors who have brought our villains to life," said Raimi. "Thomas Haden Church will be a fantastic and challenging new nemesis and we all look forward to working with him." The identity of the new villain is being kept secret and while speculation is rampant about which character is being called into action, the studio will not comment on the casting beyond confirming Church. [Sony]

January 13, 2005 - Alvin Sargeant will earn a seven-figure paycheck for writing the screenplay for SPIDER-MAN 3. Columbia Pictures has closed a contract with the writer, who had sole screenwriting credit for SPIDER-MAN 2 and also contributed (but received no on-screen credit) to the first film's script.

Sargeant will now shape the story concept idea for SM3 that director Sam Raimi and his brother Ivan have come up with into a working screenplay. So far no details concerning the third movie's storyline or even who the main villain will be have surfaced.

SPIDER-MAN 3 hits theaters May 4, 2007. [Variety]

May 25, 2004 - At this year's ShoWest convention, Sony Pictures made an announcement stating that stars Tobey Maguire, Kristen Dunst and director Sam Raimi would all be returning to work on SPIDER-MAN 3, and that the film (which hasn't even got a script yet) will be released on May 4, 2007. Nothing like planning ahead for getting your tickets, right?

Let's only hope that the third is better than the second. Watching Spider-Man 2 is like pulling your own teeth. And by the by man...you really need to go back to having your own website. I mean as much as I like Cinescape, your website was a thousand times better than this. Not to mention I felt like I was getting better news, because you had more sources.

Spider-Man was an awesome movie.Spider-Man 2 was even better. The third will only be the best.i have no fear that they are going to mess this trilogy.Rumor is that this will be the last movie in the spidey series.i hope so, because the actors and sam raimi are only on for 3 movies.so just end the series after 3, this way they don't ruin it, like other superhero movies.

Well from what ive been reading is that its possible that the "Spiderman" series could contiune but this will most likely be the last film for the tobey, kirsten, and Sam trilogy....

You know what I doubt they'll make another movie unless they can get back Tobey McGuire. Everyone identifies him as Peter Parker...replacing him after having a string of these movies is a mistake. The only way they could replace him is to take a few years off before making Spider-Man 4.

Oh and Sean...Spider-Man 2 was weak live with it man. It was a bunch of jokes, a dull sub-plot about Peter losing his powers because he's emotionally torn, and a weak villian with Doc Ock. I mean seriously the only connection he had with Peter was that Peter admired him as a scientist. I'm not saying every villian has to be connected to Peter, but they tried to do it with Doc Ock and it didn't take. So then we have a guy running around with metal arms who's sole purpose is to build a fusion generator and he'll kill and steal to do it. All the while he's doing this his mechanical arms are driving him off the deep end.

It's laughable that the sole motivation for a charcter going evil is the fact that his mechanical arms are driving him to do it. I think just about anything else you could have thought of would have been a better reason for him to do the about face he did from good guy scientist out to save the world to bad guy who will kill you for a part to build his machine. Aside from the villian angle what really bothered me about this movie is that by the end everyone knows he's Spider-Man. MJ knows, Harry knows, and even Aunt May knows it was just ridiculous. So what's part three going to be about...everyone dealing with the fact they know he's Spider-man?

Ten to one the main sub-plot of Spider-Man 3 will be Pete's and MJ's wedding.

Spider-man 2 was probably the best spiderman movie of the two. It followed the comic really well, and Doc Ock was exactly who he was in the comic. A mad scientist driven crazy by four rebotic arms. Doc Ock and peter had a realationship as scentist because they had one in the comic. I think its great the scriptwriters decided not to go off base and changes things from spider-mans roots, and I think there ability to do that will make the third film the best one of the trilogy, and I feel three is a good place to stop cause none of us want to see a bad spidey movie.

During an interview this weekend promoting Elizabethtown, Kirsten Dunst confirmed rumors to Zap2it that Thomas Haden Church will play Sandman and Topher Grace is Venom in director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, opening in theaters on May 4, 2007.

I would like to hope for Venom, but plz that would take far too much development that we have not had. Eddie Brock has not been introduced, and the only space reference is Jameson's son. There was only one small reference, I think to Eddie, and that was in the first film, when Jonah want's pictures and decides to run the ad offering money for pics. If Venom is going to be the bad guy the film will take a while, Peter will have to wear the suit, get rid of said suit, and suit will have to find Eddie, alot for one film hmm.

I think the blurb about Eddie Brock in the first film was a subtle, but deliberate way to introduce the character for later development. You're right, the entire Venom saga is too lengthy to try to cram into one film without being seriously compromised. Perhaps they could introduce the symbiote costume in the 3rd film, and have the film end with Spidey getting rid of the costume and Eddie Brock finding it.

as much as i would love the venom saga too. we already know of sandman but if you remember after the fearsome four he joind with hydroman, who shares almost the same type of power, i believe topher grace will play hydro man not venom. they will probally depart from the comic long enough to create these two charaters in the same nuclear or toxic accident. plus with venom will probally come carnage. and they wouldn't want to cloud that instalment with any other super villians.
then set for spiderman 5 the showdown with the hobgoblin. but thats just my opinion.

Venom and Green Goblin 2 would have been better. I think the Sandman will just put us to sleep.
