It seems while the rest of us were doing whatever we were doing last weekend, a few lucky fans were invited to four special screenings of Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN.
So, according to those who were there, what can we expect a few short weeks from now?
Keith Bateman, 29, told the CALGARY SUN: "I wasn't a big fan of THE PHANTOM MENACE, so I was looking forward much more to SPIDER-MAN than STAR WARS this summer, and it lived up to my expectations... It's a lot of fun and I thought the tribute to New Yorkers post-Sept. 11 was particularly cool. I think that shows how aware of its place in pop culture the movie really is."
Should be interesting to see what that refers to.
As for a younger viewer's perspective, Mario Morales, 12, liked the film "every bit as much as X-MEN. The special effects are so awesome and the action is really intense. Lots of the fighting reminded me of THE MATRIX... It's a bit like SMALLVILLE on TV because it tells you how Peter Parker became Spider-Man and how all his friends fit into the story."
A woman's take? Jen Dirdrich, 27, said SPIDER-MAN "is not just a guy movie by a long shot... Sam Raimi got the tone right. It's cheesy enough to be in the comic book film genre, but it's also intelligent and witty. It's the kind of film you know you're going to enjoy almost as much the second time around."
Guess we'll see how right or wrong these people are in a few short weeks.
