The highly anticipated feature film version of SPIDER-MAN opened nationwide last Friday and the hordes of fans that packed theaters gave their favorite web-swinger the highest opening box office weekend of all time. After years of legal wrangling, movie-goers were clearly pleased that one of the most popular superheroes ever was finally able to make his leap up onto the big screen. Incidentally, the film was released in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Spidey's first appearance in comics.

Columbia Pictures held its premiere for SPIDER-MAN at the Mann Village and Bruin Theaters in Westwood, and CINESCAPE was there to catch the celebs as they walked down the red carpet. In attendance were the film's stars Tobey Mcguire (Peter Park/Spider-Man), Kirsten Dunst (Mary Jane Watson), James Franco (Harry Osborn), Cliff Robertson (Uncle Ben), Rosemary Harris (Aunt May), J.K. Simmons (Jonah Jameson), Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin) and Randy Savage (Bone Saw McGraw). Also attending from the film were Jason Padgett, Elizabeth Banks, director Sam Raimi, executive producers Stan Lee and Avi Arad, and composer Danny Elfman.

Joining the Spider-stars were other celebrities like Bill Paxton (FRAILTY), Ted Raimi (XENA), our favorite "Man in Black" Will Smith, Kelly Preston (BATTLEFIELD EARTH), Cuba Gooding Jr (SNOW DOGS), Jonathan Lipnicki (STUART LITTLE 2), Mario Van Peebles (HIGHLANDER III), Jennifer Love Hewitt (I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER), Danny Trejo (SPY KIDS), Stephanie Romanov (ANGEL) and many others.
