It's been a roller coaster ride for the 2007 box office, with a gangbuster Summer followed by a weak Fall and then rescued by a magical Holiday season. All in all the year proved to be the best since 2004, according to analysis provided by The Hollywood Reporter
Of course, we credit the phenomenon of comic book movies, with 1 out of every 5 of the top 25 grossing films being comic-based fare.
Figures posted by Box Office Mojo show us that Sony can thank 'Spider-Man 3' for giving it another #1 momey-make for the year. The Marvel sequel banked over $336 million domestically.
The #3 movie of the year, 'Transformers', helped give Paramount one of its best years ever, with a $319 million bank.
The most exciting comic-to-film event though, was the surprise March hit '300'. Based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, the visually arresting movie by Zack Snyder finished seventh and took in over $210 million.
Further down the list are Fox's 'Rise of the Silver Surfer' and Sony's 'Ghost Rider' coming in at #17 and #25 respectively.
Other comic-based films like 'TMNT' and '30 Days of Night' were strong enough to take the #1 spot on the weekends they bowed, and landed lower positions on the year's top 100.
