Marvel Entertainment, Inc. has announced a new set of release dates for its film slate. Included on the new schedule is a 2011 bow for 'Spider-Man 4', with 'The Avengers' getting pushed back nearly a full year to 2012.

Fans can look forward to the webslinger's return on May 6, 2011, as Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire continue the franchise that made Marvel a star player in Hollywood. As with previous 'Spider-Man' films, that one is a Sony Pictures Entertainment production.

Marvel had previously staked out that date for the release of the new 'First Avenger: Captain America' movie, with the mega-crossover pic 'The Avengers' slated to come out  few months after. '

Now Marvel has shuffled its film schedule to make room for Spidey. 'Iron Man 2' remains locked into to its previously announced May 7, 2010 release. However 'Thor', which was also slated for 2010, is now on tap for June 17, 2011. 'Captain America' will arrive later that same summer with a July 22, 2011 date.

Finally, 'The Avengers' will arrive on May 4, 2012.

Thanks to Antonello Blueberry for the submission.

What do you think, Maniacs? Is 2011 going to be a big summer for Marvel? Or will the superhero saturation spilll over? Post your comments below...

I've seen enough Spiderman for now.  Not all that interested in #4.

Marvel you silly rabbits, you've doomed Thor & Captain America for they will be eaten alive by the mother of all threquels, The Dark Knight Returns!

I was thinkin' same thing hanso.  As for Spider-Man 4 I couldn't care less.

Like I said in the Rourke/IM2 thread, if Rourke was indeed in the running to be cast as the villain then I think the likely choices for him were either Kraven or Rhino,so that must mean one of them is in the next Spidey flick.

Kraven/Lizard would be sweet like it's been brought up here a few times, but even just a solo Kraven flick would be cool.  I hope Raimi delivers in a new Spidey flick, Sony forced Venom on him cause us fans wanted him so bad and look what happened.

I don't know why Marvel is scared of putting more than one movie out at a time.  It's not like people - especially fanboys and girls - won't go out and see more than one movie a week.  Some go and see the same movie three times a week - that's where a lot of their money comes from I guarantee it.

Mr.Jaw they aren't scared, they've release IM and Hulk same summer and they gonna do it with Thor and Captain America.

I've been thinking about all the Marvel movies based on Stan Lee's creations and I'm wondering if Im the only guy that thinks they'd be better with some voice narration by Stan himself, just like the old Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends/Hulk cartoons in the 80's. That voice-over got you so pumped for the episode. I really think it would have added a great element to some of these movies. Obviously not films like X-Men, but Spidey and the FF would have benefitted greatly from hearing "Get ready for all out action True-Believers!", "Excelsior!", and all that other shit that was so cool in the old shows.

Damn.... Micky Rourke as Kraven WOuld be pretty damn sick. i think i'd be finding myself rooting for Kraven over Spidey if that was the case . haha. Damn.... all these movies seem so far away.... i hate all this waiting!

Well when they do a Spidey 4 hopefully they'll use the Lizard.  They need to get on with that subplot from the previous movies.  Maybe get Kraven involved by hunting the Lizard or Spidey, doesn't matter which.  I think that would be a cool set up.

I'm glad Marvel is taking their time with the other Marvel movies and not rushing into it.  If you want something done really good, don't rush it so you can get it out to make a quick buck.  Let the fans wait a little longer for the anticipation to wanna eventually see it.  Its gonna make money anyways so just do it the right way instead of the fast way.

LOVE ME SOME SPIDEY. SOOOO glad Raimi, and McGuire are still on board. Hopefully Sony will sit back and let Raimi take the control back in the franchise he created and made succsessful, and GREAT!!!!

2011 is gonna be a kickass year for some superhero flicks.
