The Review!
4 out of 5

This CD was set up with a very small double-sided three-page insert. The insert consists of a full color front cover that depicts the main character (Sen). The first inside page is a page with a full color picture from the series. Followed by two pages with the English translation to the only vocal song “Always With Me”. The last few pages are credits for the movie as well as the CD.

With a wonderful performance by the New Japan Philharmonic, this CD takes European Classical music to a new level with soft Japanese flair. The songs are composed in the traditional style of the European classics, but there are a few, in particular “The Dragon Boy”, “Procession of the Spirits”, and “It’s Hard Work” that have that traditional Japanese folk sound to them. The good news is that whether it’s the European classical style or the Traditional Japanese style you are looking for, this one pleases in all those areas. The songs though soft and airy do have a subtle power that at times almost brings one to tearing up. Like the movie, the soundtrack holds the listener in a deep fascination from the first notes played in the light “One Summer’s Day” all the way through the last vocal sung in “Always With Me”, leaving no emotion unturned, and no heartbeat missed. A great array of classical windwood and brass instruments in several tracks get down to the very bottom of one’s soul, and keep it’d grounded for the lighter violins that are awaiting at the next turn.

I ‘d have to say a beautiful arrangement, successfully played out by a wonderful orchestra.

Fangboy says…Good to the last note. Definitely a keeper.
