Spitfire Pictures digs 'Graveslinger'

By Rob M. Worley     December 06, 2007

Sources in the know tell Comics2Film that Spitfire Pictures have optioned the film rights to Shannon Eric Denton and Jeff Mariotte's Image/Shadowline Comics title 'Graveslinger'.

Spitfire have previously produced such top-draw films as 'T3: Rise of the Machines' and 'The Wedding Planner'. Their upcoming effort is a remake of the Korean pic 'Possession',  which stars Sarah Michelle Gellar.

'Graveslinger' tells the story of Frank Timmons, a prison undertaker in the old west who accidentally triggers an ancient curse. The  prison's worst criminals rise from their graves and begin a reign of terror, sending the grizzled grave-digger on a quest to return the 117 undead villains six feet under.

The book was co-created for Shadowline by Mariotte, of 'Desperadoes' fame, and Denton, who has been enjoying a run of Hollywood success lately with deals for the comics '10', 'Wyoming' and 'World of Quest'.

Word is that buzz on the property is high, although little forward motion is expected until a WGA writer can be attached.
