SPOCK'S Mother Will Be Human

Passing this along just to keep the record straight on the upcoming STAR TREK film. During the week, Michael Fleming over at Variety Online released a press release that Winona Ryder will be playing the "Vulcan mother" of Spock (Zachary Quinto) in the next adventure. We all assumed this was an error on the report's part because it's contrary to Trek mythology on the Spock character.
It was an error, readers. Variety actually corrected their mistake the very next morning in their print version of the Daily Variety. I'm not sure why they took so long to edit their online report but they have corrected it now. The Vulcan aspect has been taken out. Still, our good friends over at Wizard Universe wanted this bit of information to be absolutely clear. They went straight to the producers and got the definitive word out of producer Damon's Lindelof's mouth...
Here's what he told Wizard Universe;
While we chalked it up to an error in reporting, we couldn’t be sure. So we dialed up Damon Lindelof, one of the film’s producers (and the co-creator of “Lost”) to tell us it ain’t so!
Sure enough, he responded: “Spock’s mother, Amanda, is ABSOLUTELY [EDITOR’S NOTE: emphasis is his] human. Shame on Variety!” When we asked if he wanted to go on the record with this, he said, “I insist!”
STAR TREK hits theaters Christmas Day 2008.
Big thanks to Scooper Jedi Banner for passing this along.
