What They Say
After ten years of dormancy, Linea awakens from a capsule in the countryside of Japan. Without any memories, she wanders into a small research center staffed by three beautiful women. Sayako, one of the researchers, is entranced by the strange woman and falls in love. Leaving Misuzu, her present lover, Sayako takes the stranger to bed, and finds that her abilities are beyond that of any ordinary woman! However, a second capsule opened shortly after Linea's, and soon all four of the women will be in terrible danger.

The Review!
Stainless Night arrives without much information about what to expect, so I was pleasantly surprised when it basically amounts to an almost hentai version of a Twilight Zone episode.

Audio:
For our primary viewing session, we listened to this disc in its original language of Japanese. The show has a pretty basic but decent sounding stereo mix that doesnt have a lot of directionality to it. Dialogue and action is clear and distinct throughout, but mostly its through the center channel. We noticed no dropouts or distortions on either language track during normal playback.

Video:
Though done in the mid 90s, the shows basic production values hold up well here since this appears to be one of the better Pink Pineapple productions from that time before they got heavily into computer painted shows. The transfer looks solid overall with hardly any cross coloration and only a few areas of annoying aliasing. Colors are solid, though reds look a little over saturated. Its not as shiny as a lot of newer shows, but it holds a good hentai OVA production value to it.

Packaging:
You wont be able to tell much from this cover other than the potential for lesbian action is high, which may be all that some folks need. The front cover has a decent clutching image of the two female leads of the show set against an odd bluish background. The back cover provides a few more pieces of artwork from the show and a brief summary that gives the slightly science fiction feel to it. Production and technical information is all nice and clear here while the insert provides chapter listings for the two episodes.

Menu:
The main menu is an expanded version of the front cover, a nice simple static piece of animation with menu selections to the left. With little here beyond the show itself, access times are nice and fast and the layout is straightforward and easy to use.

Extras:
None.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Two immediate gripes; Kitty has opted for front-loaded trailers here, which are also available via the main menu. Bad, bad, bad Kitty. The other is that the subtitles, while looking good in general, dont appear to have much in the way of a border or drop shadow, causing them to be a bit harder to read and blending in with the animation more.

That aside, these two episodes were quite a bit of fun. Taking place in a near future, but one where a lot of things in the world has changed, we follow Misuzu and Sayako as Misuzu takes the two of them on a retreat from the Roboken schooling, a place where Misuzu is rather highly placed. Apparently the two have drifted apart a bit over the past couple of months, so Misuzu uses this opportunity to get back into Sayakos panties. This goes over fairly well as the two start fooling around, only to find out that Aki has followed them on the trip, causing Misuzus plans to fall apart.

Apparently the place that Misuzu rented, a very spacious resort area, is completely empty except for these three girls. Sayaka ends up adding to the group as that night, she follows her dog out into the surrounding forest and comes across an unconscious android girl. As we discover, shes lost her memories, though we see some terrifying fragments of it as we go along. All she retains is her name, Linia. She ends up becoming friends with the girls as they try to discover her origins, as she appears to be a custom made one. But to make things worse, Sayaka ends up falling for this lost lamb, but this results in one of the best couple-friendly hentai scenes Ive seen in a long time.

Linias not going to be left alone though, as theres another woman out there hunting her down, which brings in the twists and turns to the show that gives it the feel of an Outer Limits episode with full visuals. Theres so much information thats left out on the way of the world that it actually feels right that it plays out like this, giving only the tiny bits of information where necessary, thereby keeping the focus on the characters themselves. Its definitely a girls relationship show aimed at guys, but its very well done and rather enjoyable. A mix of sex, mystery, discovery and action, Stainless Night provides an hour of good all around entertainment.
