Anne Rice's poet-painter husband, victim of cancer

JAM! SHOWBIZ reports on the Monday passing of Stan Rice due to cancer at 60 in New Orleans. The poet and painter married future vampire scribe Anne Rice in 1961. They met in Dallas, in a high school journalism class.

The Rices relocated to San Francisco the year of their marriage and remained there until 1988. While in California Mr. Rice rose to become head of the creative writing department at San Francisco State University.

In a 1992 biography of Ms. Rice, she said of him, "He's a model to me of a man who doesn't look to heaven or hell to justify his feelings about life itself. His capacity for action is admirable. Very early on he said to me, 'What more could you ask for than life itself?'"
