So, by "top spot", they mean director and not star? OK. I'm cool with that. This would be a great trilogy, although I enjoyed the '94 mini-series a lot when it aired.

It looks like scribe David Kajganich has been tasked with fleshing out the screenplay for another of Stephen King's classic novels. Vulture is reporting the man who recently redrafted an adaptation of IT has been picked up by Warner Bros. Pictures and Ben Affleck to script out their upcoming revision of The Stand. Some of Kajganich's other credits include The Invasion and Blood Creek.
Affleck has been mentioned in the top spot since late last year even if the studio has yet to officially confirm his directing status. Previous reports also suggest this adaptation of King's work is being developed as a trilogy.
Previously adapted as a television miniseries in 1994, "The Stand" tells the story of a full-scale apocalypse, driven by the accidental release of a biological weapon and the ensuing struggle of good versus evil carried out by the world's final survivors.

So, they are remaking IT? Is that what I read? I would want to watch a modern rated R version of IT than a remake of the Stand. The TV Stand was good but the TV version of IT was terrible. IT needs to be redone badly.
Give the guy a break. Affleck was pretty good in The Town and other movies he's made. The two movies I have seen he directed, Gone Baby Gone and The Town were very good if not great movies... I think he got an Oscar for writing a big hit too that a lot of people like. I am sure he will do just fine. He could play Larry Underwood too. Does Jennifer Garner have a sister Ben?
Affleck has shown he is a damn good director but any time I hear he's acting I get a little nervous. I can't think of anyone else that can be great in some roles and look completely inept in others. So fingers crossed if he's also starting in the film
I just don't see the Stand working as a movie, unless its done in sequels. Plus there's just so much suspense building in the book, very little action. IT on the other hand could really be good, though I thought Tim Curry was good in the original miniseries, the rest of it was crap.
By "top" spot, I do indeed mean director. Warner Bros. Pictures has yet to update our press kits for The Stand with Ben Affleck as director but every story for the project has him basically overseeing development...
The Stand is planned a trilogy, ztigr...So that means sequels.
As to the other question, yep IT for the silver screen is in development. Our search is acting screwy but I reported on it back in 09 or 10. The above screenwriter penned the script for it and we're still waiting on a director for it to gain traction but it is also planned as a multi-film deal...
Theonly way the stand will work on the big screen is as a trilogy..otherwise you'd have to seriously cut off more than 3/4 of the book to make it work as a 2-3 hr movie. I could easily see Ben affleck in the role of stu actually. The tv series worked well because they were able to do it as a mini series. This one, like dark tower, doesn't have much actionin the books, so it's kinda tricky to adapt
I hope we see, "People that survived the plague but didnt survive the next 24 hours." That would be some awesome viewing...of course I am just wishing. It would be nice if it was touched on though (=
best that Ben Aflleck directs than acts in it so, might have some potentials.
