It was only a matter time before the people behind Star Trek decided to celebrate the music of Trek with a concert of their own. After all it has been done by Star Wars, Doctor Who, even the Lord of the Rings have had special Concert engagements. Check out the press release and concert dates for THE FUTURE BEGINS -- STAR TREK: LIVE IN CONCERT.

Press Release: One of pop culture’s most iconic franchises is about to be seen and heard in a brand new way. CBS Consumer Products, Paramount Pictures, 21st Century Symphony Orchestra, IMG Artists and the Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency will launch Star Trek: Live in Concert featuring the Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness films. The events will celebrate the extraordinary collaboration between film and music as Michael Giacchino's scores are brought to life on stage with J.J. Abrams’ blockbuster films shown simultaneously in high definition on the big screen.

Debuting in Europe this May with performances in the UK and Switzerland, Star Trek: Live in Concert will premiere in the U.S. this July in Houston and San Diego. The San Diego Symphony performance will coincide with Comic-Con International in July. Ugh! London only. What about Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester or other northern cities? At least we had the Star Wars concert with Anthony Daniels narrating at the NEC a couple of years ago. If it half as good as that then it will be a good night out.

I'll get my geek on and attend the San Diego concert. I might even buy a uniform and wear it there!

I don't have a problem with JJ's movies (well, except for Khan), but am I the only one who thinks it's kind of silly to do this for the only two movies that SOOO many Trekkies despise?  I'd go see a concert anyway, but I would personally rather see a concert that celebrates the entire Trek history and universe.  It'd be killer to hear a symphony do the theme to Voyager live.  While not my favorite show, that is definitely my favorite Trek theme...well, it's tied with the opening music for First Contact.

@ SarcasticCaveman Goldsmith, Horner,  Eidelman, et al  - you make my mouth drool. Now that concert would get me off my butt and down to London in a flash.
