In an interview with MTV, writers Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci revealed some key points regarding the upcoming Star Trek film.

The first interesting revelation: The movie is titled just Star Trek.

"That's the intended title," Orci said. "I don't think we want to put any colons or anything on it."

They continued on to say that the story would be a reimagining of the franchise that will remain true to its history, but aim for the broadest audience possible, and the film will take place aboard a starship.

"There will be more action in this movie than any Trek that's preceded it," added Kurtzman.

Star Trek is aiming for a Christmas 2008 release.

KJ's Take:  I like the title, I really do.  Screw Star Trek XI, were going back to the start baby!  Readers on this site may not be excited for this film, but I sure am.

and yet, im still worry about this movie, nothing that has been published already regarding the new star trek movie has gotten me excited.. i hope to be wrong though, i really love the series and the movies.. oh, and why do i get the feeling that gene roddenberrry's essence of what star trek should be about is gona be whipped out? more action packed? thats not what gene had in mind when he created the original star trek and the next generation

Going to REIMAGE the franchise and stay true it's history. Yeah, right. This will not be a great movie. How in the world can it have MORE action? What is action without story? Geez, Paramount, you are really screwing up.

Yeah, it's a perfect title. I have so many reservations about this film, but I must admit that I'm chomping at the bit to see it. I'm hoping JJ can pull a rabbit out of his hat and give the world...and the fans...a great trek film that puts a stories\d franchise back on top.

bdd - I think they mean plot as in 'gunpowder plot', not as in 'tell us a bit about the story'.

Aim for the broadest possible audience? Have we forgotten that the original Star Trek was popular precisely because it ignored polls and conventional wisdom and created something intelligent? If this new Star Trek breaks no rules, offers no new insights, ignores the progress of science, and is dumbed down for your average moron out there it will end the franchise. And in my view, that would be a sad day indeed.

Star Trek plot details huh? Wow, thanks for all those details. That headline was a little bit deceiving.

Didn't they try to broaden the audience with Enterprise and ultimately gave us rub-on gel to decontaminate people in a sultry manner? Ugh!

Paramount, learn to respect your audience.

I thought Enterprise was actually the best of all the shows because it was more grounded in reality and didn't depend on techno-babble to save them from the energy being every week.

Like BSG there will be a LOT of bashing about a reimagining, but it will ultimately be better.
