Several cast members from STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION appeared at this year's Television Critics Association (TCA) Fall Press Tour gathering in Pasadena to talk up the program's addition to the TNN cable channel schedule. CINESCAPE's Eric Moro caught up to LeVar Burton, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn and Wil Wheaton to get the latest word on what's up with STAR TREK X. Here's some bits of info Eric managed to get from the actors, who seemed to have their guard up:
* The cast remained tight-lipped as to the plot of the upcoming TNG movie, but LeVar Burton confirmed that the screenplay was written by John Logan (of GLADIATOR fame) with a story by Brent Spiner. He also revealed that no production start date has been set.
* LeVar Burton, who is recently recovered from donating a kidney to his mother, expressed his love for the TREK franchise in general and revealed that he will be directing episodes of the new TREK series ENTERPRISE. He goes into the studio at the end of this month to begin working on his first episode.
* When asked if her character would find love in STAR TREK X, Gates McFadden jokingly replied, "How do you know my character already hasn't found love? Who knows, but one can always hope."[IMG7L]
* When asked whether she would make a cameo in STAR TREK X, Whoopi Goldberg (who appeared via satellite at the July 11 TCA event to promote her upcoming movie for cabler TNT entitled CALL ME CLAUS) replied, "No, I'm not. I was not invited."
Keep checking in with CINESCAPE for further reports from our man on the scene, Eric Moro.
