According to Sci Fi Wire, a script for the upcoming Star Trek XI prequel has now been completed and submitted to the studio for final approval. If the script meets approval, the studio plans to aim for a Christmas 2008 release.
The site also mentioned that no decisions have been made on the film's budget, casting or production start date as they all are subject to a final script being approved by the studio.
The film is rumored to focus on the early years of Capt. James T. Kirk and Spock at Starfleet Academy.
KJ's Take: It seems that the majority of uses on this site are very apathetic toward this film, which is not a good sign for it's box office potential.
It seems like Abrams has a lot of work to do in order to win over the masses, but I have every confidence he will do just that.
