Here, here, Gauley

Or is it....

Hear, Hear?

Hear here?

But yeah, that is my number one thing said to all the "haters" for any franchise, remake, etc.  How the hell does it ruin the past creations for you?  That is the one main argument that I hate.  Pffft.

Thanks Mr. JBE

Oh yes, Redhairs. Love that Onion piece from yesterday. It's up on our homepage following yesterday's Amazing Predator Rap (those who miss it should google it).

And thanks for the link too. Supernaut, Karl must have thought the same thing about DeForest's numerous classic lines in the old movies and TOS series because there is no doubt from me that the actor put a lot of effort into his fantastic performance as Bones. He knew the fans would be watching closely and damn if he didn't succeed at pulling it off.

gauley:

Not to minimize the mistakes that were made in the examples you named, I am not sure if you can compare them to ST. I mean, Hulk, Spidey and Godzilla have had numerous iterations throughout the years. There is room for changing something here and there. ST seems to be a whole different beast altogether, and I don't know if that's for better or worse. If the movies were in comic continuity, I could honestly see the concern would have over the Spidey movies or Hulk movies. I guess I just want to say in a nutshell that I don't know enough to say whether this relaunch, reboot or whatever is warranted. I will see the movie because I do know the basic premises behind ST and it seems to be a very enjoyable movie by all accounts. I do, however, understand why some would feel like their years of investment are being flushed down the toilet. To believe one thing, only to have someone come along and say another happened is a hard pill to swallow.

Tbones,

When you see it this weekend, you'll begin to understand how the film's approach may work for both fanbases (old and new). I don't want to spoil it for you but it's done in a way that the story isn't someone coming along and saying another set of events happened while destroying the previous mythology. What happened in the TOS can still be considered as official...from a certain point of view.

That's as far as I will go here. See you in a few days after you've seen the movie. :)

LOL.  I finally saw the Onion piece on Star Trek, hilarious!

Jarrod, where is the edit button?  Answer meeeeeeeeeeeee!

Tonebone 5/6/2009 2:41:48 PM

I see.

Well, if you put it that way Jarrod, I guess those diehards who are leery about the movie should go in there with an open mind. At least give it a chance. It doesn't sound like it smashes canon, but seeks to view it through a different POV.  I guess if this franchise was in the rough of a shape, it probably serves it best to be given some sort of fresh perspective.  And if this movie pushes someone like me, who has watched and watches an episode of the various series or a movie here and there to become a Trekker/Trekkie, then the movie has served its purpose.

I also read elsewhere that Pine does a great job as Kirk, not totally dismissing Shatner, but def making the role his own

I am looking forward to this movie, but I am curious about one thing. J.J. Abrams said that he didn't want Shatner in it because it would screw up the continuity of Star Trek since Kirk died in Generations. Oops oh yeah, spoiler alert.

Anyway, now I read that this new Star Trek has no problem breaking up the continuity of the Star Trek universe. So J.J. What is the real reason you didn't want Shatner in it?

Unless he is in it and then in that case ignore this comment.

I don't really care one way or another, I'm just curious.
