Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015

Lucas sells Lucasfilm to Disney

Yes Maniacs, we got the message and heard the news as well (16 emails to the office). Disney, the studio that a few years ago acquired Marvel Comics, has just bought Lucasfilm Ltd. (for $4.05 Billion). This isn’t the only big news. Disney and Lucasfilm Ltd have also announced a SEVENTH Star Wars movie! It is currently titled Episode 7 and scheduled for a 2015 (probably in May) release. What follows Episode 7? Well, Episodes 8 and 9 of course!

This also means that Disney has also acquired the rights to the Indiana Jones franchise as well.

Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement that “the acquisition is a great fit and will help preserve and grow the ‘Star Wars’ franchise. The last 'Star Wars' movie release was 2005's 'Revenge of the Sith' -- and we believe there's substantial pent-up demand," Iger said.

MSN also reported that “Kathleen Kennedy, the current co-chairman of Lucasfilm, will become the division's president and report to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Lucas will be creative consultant on new ‘Star Wars’ films”.

George Lucas said in a statement, "It's now time for me to pass 'Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers."

Does that mean George will pass really pass the torch on? He’ll probably remain a producer too, but if he really means “passing the torch” who will direct Episode 7? Better yet, will any of the Timothy Zahn novels be part of the new trilogy? So many questions and 2015 is only 2 month and 2 years away! Check out the interview from Star Wars.com below!

Yeah, this news pretty much made my day, week, month, AND year. Don't even care about the speculation as to what the movies will be. The point is, they're going to be made. And by a company who has done incredible work with genre properties. I'm sure all the haters will come out in full force, but true fans like myself will welcome this like it's a winning lottery ticket.

Bring it, Disney!!

Imagine Star Wars in the hands of the Pixar guys?

I'm so excited.  This is AWESOME news!  Lucas took far too much bashing over the years, but it's a testament to the empire (pun intended) that he was able to build that he got so much $ for it.  Can't wait for Episode 7!!! :)

Hell has frozen over....wow....I could not believe it when I heard it and now that's official...can't believe it.

BIG kudos to Mania for having this video since I don't seem to see it everywhere else.

I'm dying to see Mara Made so I hope they pick one of the Timothy Zahn novels to continue the saga.  About time Lucas moved aside and let someone new do the Star Wars stuff.

What about the clone wars? Will that stay on cartoon network, or move to one of Disney's networks?

FlannelAnimal 10/30/2012 3:02:06 PM

Why am I sceptical?  shouldn't I be giving this a chance?  I want to be happy, I want to have A New Hope about the possibilities but I have this feeling of a Phantom Menace lurking in the shadows....

This is great news! The only thing is, I absolutely DO NOT want to see other actors playing roles of already established characters...like someone else playing Han Solo or Luke Skywalker. The universe is huge and so many movies can be made without ever having to touch the 6 movies that already exist.

Fuck you Lucas!  Yay Disney and more Star Wars!  Bring on the original trilogy on blu!  More Star Wars at the disney parks!  Kingdom Hearts with Marvel & Star Wars!  More star Wars, more Indiana Jones!!!  Yeahbuddy!!!!!
