Star Wars Celebration 5 happened this weekend at the Orange County Convention Center in Florida. A short distance away Walt Disney World was having their own Celebration in saying goodbye to an old friend, Star Tours. Their Star Wars theme ride that took you to that galaxy far far away is closing September 8, 2010. With Celebration 5 in town it only seemed right to go all Star Wars this weekend. Mania was there to cover the “Last Tour to Endor” and see just how many Star Wars enthusiasts would turn up.
Star Tours

Star Tours needs the change. After 25 years of REX’s “first flight” it does seem incredibly dated. The outside of the attraction is still brilliantly detailed and a wonder that takes you back to being a child and seeing Return of the Jedi for the first time. The ride itself is not nearly as thrilling as Space Mountain which is older and just on the other side of Disney World. When Star Tours 2 opens in 2011 it will ignite the fire in the Star Wars fans to come to Disney all over again.

Raiders of the Lost Jedi Temple of Doom

Besides the amazing fireworks show, which concluded the events activities, by far the best event during the Last Tour to Endor was “Raiders of the Lost Jedi Temple of Doom”. Many of us have seen the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. Many of us know that if you see it twice it really diminishes your original experience with it. It is the same show over and over again. It has to be because people’s lives are in danger, well to a point any way. “Raiders of the Lost Jedi Temple of Doom” took the idea that two fans would combine Indiana Jones and Star Wars to see what would happen. It was by far everything you would think it would be. Boba Fett appears to collect Solo and finds Indy instead. Disney took their stunt spectacular to a new and exciting place and completely made you feel like a kid again. It was as if your toy chest exploded and your imagination was allowed to run wild. Though never in your wildest dreams did you think Leia would refer to Vader as her Dad nor watch Indy and Vader duel it out with lightsabers. Capping the experience was Seth Green (Robot Chicken), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) and Jamie King’s (voice of Aurra Sing on The Clone Wars) participation as extras. Though the coup de gras was watching all of this with George Lucas in the audience.

Star Wars The Last to Endor Cosplay

Despite the heat, 98 degrees, many of the Cosplay Star Wars fans turned up. It created some interesting pictures as Biker Scouts kicked back with drinks and girls wearing a Slave Leia outfits were appropriately dressed. Even the Dark Lord of the Sith needed to have a fan with the heat. Though by far the best outfit was a young lady dressed as Bespin Leia. Hands down she was perfect.

Bespin Leia might not be showing much skin but she's cute as hell. I think Darth Maul holding a fan illustrates why not too many people are walking around in wookie costumes heh. Star Tours 2 is gonna rock.
