STAR WARS' McCallum rails on Internet rumors

In an interview with CINESCAPE's own Anthony C. Ferrante for our SUMMER MOVIE PREVIEW, STAR WARS EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES producer Rick McCallum went off a bit on the swirl of rumors which constantly dog Lucasfilm during the production of the prequel trilogy, and let some hints drop about the effects of STAR WARS EPISODE III.
"The beautiful thing about the Internet is 85 percent of it is completely made up and total bulls**t and the other 15 percent that is right is usually by accident more than anything else," McCallum said. "In relation to STAR WARS, it's no big deal."
He went on to talk about what fans might expect to see in EPISODE III, which goes into production next summer.
"[Digital animation] will be used more with EPISODE III, so instead we pushed stuff with digital sets and arenas, and normally stuff we would have done with miniatures was done completely digital," McCallum said. "We pushed the 3-D matte paintings and have taken it to the next step. And hopefully Jim Cameron is going to make a new movie in a year or two and take it to the next level. So there are a lot of digital characters in EPISODE II, but not enough with the same kind of presence that Watto or Jar Jar had in the first that there will probably be in the next chapter. After all this is the story between Anakin and Padmé. It's the story of the two of them meeting, their journey through this and ultimately how they fall in love."
