It will be a day long remembered, because Disney will be giving the fans what they really want, if this is true. is reporting an exclusive story that Walt Disney plans on releasing the original Star Wars Trilogy, unaltered, on Blu-ray before Episode VII arrives in theaters.

Yes, that means no alterations and no redone special effects. This will give us Han shooting first. Darth Vader won’t scream “No”. Last, and certainly not least, Hayden Christensen will not appear at the end of Return of the Jedi

"For a long time Star Wars fans have been clamoring for Disney/Lucasfilm to re-release the original, unaltered cut of the first Star Wars trilogy, and has now confirmed with two independent reliable sources that just such a plan is under way.

According to our sources, Disney has plans to release the original cut of the Star Wars trilogy on Blu-ray. Our sources indicate that the project has been under way for quite some time, but it’s been challenging because of some damage to the original negatives they are utilizing. The goal is to release A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of Jedi in their complete, unaltered, original form without the redone special edition SFX.

Our sources did not have an exact date as to when the original cut of the Star Wars Trilogy would be released on Blu-ray, due to the challenges Disney has encountered in pulling everything together. However, our sources indicated the goal is to have it ready and released before Star Wars Episode VII is released in theaters".
The time table for this release has to be the fourth quarter of 2015. Expect to see the Star Wars Trilogy sometime around October. To say nothing of seeing them again in special engagements theatrically before Episode VII. If you are a die hard, you have probably broken out your old VHS Tapes in recent years. In my own family, it is the only way my nephews watches them. Hopefully, we will get an official announcement from Disney and or Lucasfilm in the next few days.

And Boba Fett's voice will sound cool again.

I was just talking to a friend about this, hoping that Disney would release the Original Trilogy on Blu Ray.  Maybe the Disney purchase wasn't such a bad thing after all.

Wait, does this mean we will have the original Ewok battle I saw in the theatre with the Ewok getting stepped on by the ATST?

Disney doesn't own the distribution rights to the first movie, which are owned by Fox until 2020, so this story is obviously BS.

The original clocks in at 2:05. My personal edition clocks in at 2:29. I wonder if/when they will release a version with all deleted footage (Luke & Tredwell, Tosche Station, Luke & Biggs, Vader and Chief Bast, The search for R2D2, extended Cantina scene {Jenny, more Tropers, big monster}, extened scene where somone from the bar comes out to get the Tropers, Luke & Biggs 2 - capatian says he met Luke's father, nonchalant

iredjay is correct that 20th Century Fox owns the rights to the first 6 films. However marketing the new Star Wars movies would be crucial to Disney. Most likely some kind of deal would be worked out between the two companies. In other words a big fat cheque issued to Fox.

C'mon Disney, release the Holiday Special on Blu-Ray!

Oh lord, who cares. I could care less that Han didn't shoot first. And I was always dissapointed seen that old guy as Anikan's ghost  he didn't look like a jedi to me. I loved it when they switched it to Hayden. And as far as Boba Fett goes, there is NOTHING in Empire or Return that even remotely  suggest that he was a badass. He had like 2 minutes of screen time. His legend is the just an over hype by fans. I'm definately not looking forward to how dated HD makes those old special effects look.

Trust me Miner49... as someone who actually watched it happen on TV in 1978, it was and remains truly terrible. Terrible in a way that 1970's tackiness could only deliver.

As Pinhead from Hellraiser would say; This is not for your eyes child.
