STAR WARS religion Lucasfilm endorsed?

It is a story that has become legion over the years among some STAR WARS fans. Loyal, rabid fans. REALLY rabid fans.
In the heady days after the 1977 release of STAR WARS, with creator George Lucas trying to figure out what he was going to do next, and 'May the Force be with you' replacing 'good-bye' among many (granted) geeky fans (me), GODFATHER auteur and Lucas mentor Francis Ford Coppola tried to convince Lucas to create a religion out of the Force. Lucas balked.
Or did he?
In a posting on the official STAR WARS website, comes this little mantra of the Jedi ways, under the heading of a Jedi Code:
There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no death; there is the Force.
What also accompanies it is a lengthy article containing more than a few insights on living a Jedi life. Just think if we could write-off our STAR WARS merchandise as a religious donations...
