Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie. I want to start collecting stamps again.

You just have to know that Lucas is making money off of this somehow. I bet he suckered the government into giving him a cut.

I wouldn't say "suckered" had a thing to do with it. All the Star Wars charatcers are TRADEMARKED to Lucasfilm, and as such the use of their likenesses on stamps would oblige the government to pony up royalties for the use of said characters.

A framed set of the stamps will make a great Christmas present for my best friend. If Lucas has anything to do with this, you just know there are going to be about 5 versions of the stamps, with each set having very small changes to the images so Star Wars fans will buy each one. The original set will only be out for a week and we'll be told to buy a lot of the other four because the first set will never be available again. Six months later, there will be an announcement that the original set will be reissued so we better buy lots of those, too.

wessmith brings up an interesting point. It is a pain in the neck the way Lucas re-issues EVRYTHING. At the same time though, you can't really hold it against the man to want to make that money when everybody complains about his marketing tactics, yet they ALL still fork out the money to buy every single edition! We live in a capatilist country after all. If people were willing to open up their wallets every time I sneezed, then I would jump on exploiting that too! :)

He'll have 5 versions. Then, in 5 years, he'll change the appearance of the characters in the stamps and have the stamps reissued with the new look.

You can go to the official Star Wars web site to vote on which pictures the stamps will have. I'll definitely be in line for these.
