Star Wars Thursday: Toy Fair 2011
Hasbro, Lego and More!

February 24, 2011
While walking the aisles of Toy Fair last week I over heard one attendee say “every third booth has something with Star Wars on it”. Whether this guy was complaining or noticing it for the first time it will remain a mystery. Nevertheless, he was right. The Force is still very strong with Star Wars and there was no shortage of toys with their brand on it. Hasbro had plenty to offer this year as The Clone Wars series is into its third season. Lego was in full force as well supporting both The Clone Wars and the films. However, the big boys had some competition as Gentle Giant and Kotobukiya had a few items on display too.
The Clone Wars Figures:
Wave 2 will on shelves in March and wave 3 will be on shelves in April.
The Clone Wars Republic Fighter Tank R/C:
The big vehicle this year from Hasbro will be the Republic Fighter Tank. It will be remote controlled and fire 6 projectiles. It does include its own Clone Trooper with an August release.
Star Wars Vintage Collection:
The Vintage line will continue through 2012. There will be 35 figures this year that will include some of the Expanded Universe. There will also be “deleted scene” figures to coincide with the Blu-ray release in the fall. Wave 1 will land in March. What most of us will want is Boba Fett in his all white prototype armor. It is this year’s mail away figure. Check out the full details on the SDCC exclusive Revenge of the Jedi box set (here).
There will of course be an assortment of exclusive figures this year from Hasbro and their partners. With the new Star Tours opening in Disney World this May, you will have two new sets including both classic and new characters for the ride.
Gentle Giant and Kotobukiya:
High end collectibles are always a tantalizing treat for collectors. To drive us crazy even further Gentle Giant is releasing a Pre Vizsla Maquette this spring at $95.00. Kotobukiya is releasing a two pack of Stormtroopers (seen here) at $74.99 in the spring as well. Fear not, if you need a Darth Vader and a Boba Fett they are coming from Kotobukiya as well.
Lego is bouncing back and fourth between the Star Wars Saga and the TV series. There are several play sets coming from Lego both big and small. In August there will be four sets worth picking up. The first is a Republic Frigate straight from The Clone Wars. It will retail at $119.99, come with 1,015 pieces, and 5 mini-figures. From Episode 1 come Anakin and Seblba’s Podracers. They will be packaged together. Collectively there will be 810 pieces and 5 mini-figures. Finally the dark lord of the Sith, Darth Maul, will have his Infiltrator transformed into Legos. It will have 479 pieces, 4 mini-figures and retail for $69.99.
