The way Rick described the stories reminds me of how he described The Phantom Menace in the making-of documentary.  We all know how that turned out.  I'm at the point now where I don't care about the future of Star Wars.  I'll always have my Trilogy, and that's enough. 

If there's an episode of the series in which Jar Jar Binks is slowly tortured to death by Boba Fett, I'll definitely watch that one.  Otherwise, meh.

 Considering that Lucas gets and has enough money from the legion of suckers...errr, I mean very dedicated fans, that keep buying the same movie over and over and over again in the same format, he could probably start his own tv network. They can then replay Howard the Duck a couple of times a week along with Red Tails. 

 So much material for story telling, so few stories told.  I'm excited about a SW tv series, but hoping Lucas lets some new blood really run the show.  He;s too worried about appealing to all the demographics, rather than telling a good story.  So  many ways this could be done too.  While PPV is likely out, I'm sure HBO or the likes would be more than happy to pay through the nose for rights.  With bigger TVs and them catching up so fast with the theatre as far as 3D etc., its time for the bigger budget shows to start taking over the movie networks.

Seriously though, what's 5 million per episode for Lucasfilm? Chump change. They will recover their money back. You can better believe there will be videogame, RPG, toys and many more tie-ins to this. Let's not forget the DVD/blu-ray sales.

I totally agree, there is a good chance this stuff will be better than what GL has directed. I could almost see some directors out there salivating at the prospect of directing a Star Wars show. I could see Frank Darabont (Lucas' old buddy), maybe Spielberg and more young and diehard fans like Kevin Smith, Joss Whedon and JJ Abrams.

 Each hour has more visual effects and digital animation than any of the films? Really? The already have 50 scripts ready to go? Sorry, but I call BS! If they're honestly ready to go then what's truly stopping them. Having a 4-5 million dollar budget isn't that uneard of these days in television. 

I'm excited about this, but I fear anything that Rick McCallum is involved in. You know how all the hard-core fans talk about Lucas surrounding himself with yes-men who accede to all his crazy ideas and let him fuck up the prequels by not saying "George, that's a stupid idea, kill the gungan"?  Rick McCallum is the No. 1 Yes Man. He's a parasite and if anyone deserves the blame for letting a highly creative but naive and poorly skilled director run riot with unfiltered ideas, it is McCallum. Please note I am not commenting on his skills as a producer, in terms of the technical aspects of the job of producing a film, just his motivation and gravy-train mentality.

4 to 5 million dollars to produce... Yeah, that's nothing these days. I can remember when people freaked out that the cast of 'Friends' each wanted a million per episode. FOX doesn't deserve this show...enough people have cable TV these days for this to be aired on AMC or FX. Besides, I can't see this being aired on the same network as 'GLEE'. Just...No.

I think some of u guys r missing the point. According to the interview video at around the 40 second mark, he says they r trying to GET IT DOWN to 4-5 million an episode. Right now they are saying it would cost WAY more than that to produce an episode and don't have the technology yet to make it that affordable..... If I understood all that correctly..... Otherwise they'd be shooting right now.

if STARWARS has something coming out on tv, they don't need to worrie bout an audience STARWARS has the most loyal fan's in the world, they will tune in and watch this.. the cost of each episode will pay off just by the # of people that will be watching this when it's ready to come out. i almost feel sorry for the rest of the networks that will be going on at the same time as the new STARWARS tv show.. can't wait hope they do this right and explore the STARWARS universe more ..
