To be honest I would've rathered something more grounded in the politics of the Empire or the Republic depending on its timeline. But I'll take anything Star Wars, even their version of Sopranos Star Wars Style

GL selling Lucasfilm is probably the best thing for this franchise.

Since he was the supreme decision maker, a lot of stuff got held back. I'm looking forward for a different take on the Star Wars that doesn't involve GL. What held this show back was Lucas' stupid reluctance to keep using CG technology. I remember McCallum saying "we're still far ahead because it's too costly to produce this for TV". Uh yeah...creating CG characters for TV or an entire world takes a lot of manpower and of course...time.

Some sci-fi shows proved they don't have to rely on CG. See Farscape for creature effects and see Firefly for the "used Star Wars" look.  It can be done on a moderate budget if the right people are working on it.

Glad there are no more Lucas yes men.

Since Disney owns ABC, I could see this happening. The article was taken from Bleeding Cool and one thing mentioned is the ABC SHIELD show. Again, Disney/Marvel is experimenting with a TV show/movie direct tie in. If this works...I could see them going the Star Wars TV route and tie it in with the new movies.

 2 expensive.  Even with Disney owning distribution, license etc.  $5 million an ep is too much.  Budget got 2 come down.

I don't think so Hanso. I would rather see 5 million per episode but a shortened season. Not the standard 22 episodes TV shows have. I find the shortened seasons are usually the best shows out there because there is no filler episode crap.

HBO and Starz. Walking Dead. All small seasons and top quality shows. Even when Lost shotened their seasons, the show got better because they had less filler.

15 episodes at 5 million would be 75 million per season. Sure, it would be the most expensive prime time network TV show ever, but it is Star Wars and would have no shortage of viewers. Not only that but Disney/Lucasfilm would win with other tie-ins to the show (videogames, toys, theme park, etc...)

 But the vieweres wouldn't be guaranteed cause its set within the Star Wars universe but its not really Star Wars, ie lightsabers and what not, which is what people associate with the franchise.  It'd be a sci fi show and those usually don't pull a lot of viewers.  You need 10-15 million viewers per ep, and would that be enough to justify the cost of the show?  I don't know cause I don't run a  TV network. 

I do agree that the tie ins to show and the fact that they wouldn't have to pay anyone cause they own the franchise might offset the price tag of the series.  But I don't know if that's enough to make them pull the trigger.  Guess we'll see.

5 mill an episode wouldn't make it exactly the most expensive ever, especially if you adjust the dollar a minute average or inflation

The last season of Friends I recall reading cost about 10mil an episode. And there are more than a few recent series although mostly shortlived that cost close to 5 mil. I believe LOST was around 4 mil an episode

The series won't see the light of day until after the next film.  Star Wars has fallen out of vogue, even in geek circles, after those atrocious prequels.  And in the interval, we've had Lord of the Rings and dozens of comic book>film series start up with varying levels of geek adoration.  Even Star Trek got an amazingly good reboot.  So Lucasfilm really needs to come out of the gate strong to reclaim their fan base and show the world that its galaxy far far away is back in good hands with great stories and characters (not to mention some decent dialogue).

Oh, and there should NEVER... EVER... EVER be another mention of midichlorians EVER AGAIN.
