"Stardust" Trailer Online

The trailer for the upcoming Matthew Vaughn film, Stardust, has made it's way online.

You can find it here.

The film, based on the best-selling graphic novel by Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess, takes audiences on an adventure that begins in a village in England and ends up in places that exist in an imaginary world. A young man named Tristan (Charlie Cox) tries to win the heart of Victoria (Sienna Miller), the beautiful but cold object of his desire, by going on a quest to retrieve a fallen star.

Stardust, which will release on July 27, stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro, Claire Danes, Charlie Cox, Sienna Miller, Ricky Gervais, Jason Flemyng and Peter O’Toole.

KJ's Take:  Oh dear, I haven't watched a trailer that bad in forever.  So many big names, such a craptastic trailer.  Hell, they couldn't even find original music, so they decided to rip it from the biggest movie of this decade.  Did they not think we would notice?  Are they purposefully promoting that they are a piss poor Pirates wannabe?  Someone needs to be fired, and likely will be when this junk bombs at the box office.

Oh, and what in the hell is with the picture of Pfeiffer happily trotting around in her roman chariot, being pulled by two puny little goats.  Seriously, how much money did the studio throw away to make this pile of garbage.

Okay, first of all, this story should be amazing. Gaiman is a terrific writer so the source material should be top notch. I haven't read this book yet but American Gods was great! This has a great cast and I really like the concept. The music in the trailer is recycled and the trailer didn't seem to be cut well but I don't think that will be any indication of this movie. I think we will see that in future trailers. I'll be there on opening day! By the way, Pirates wasn't the biggest movie of the decade. It wasn't even that good.

I can't really tell if I'd like this movie from the bief snippet offered, but on the hand I see no reason to trash it. This movie is a fairy tale that is told as if it were true. Complaining that it doesn't make sense doesn't make sense for this genre. Emotion is the only currency here. On the other hand, if this was touted as science fiction, I'd jump on it with both feet. But in a fairy tale, sure, puny little goats can pull a chariot.

I thought the trailer was fine, and it did get me interested in learning more about the story...so it did it's job well. Plus, most movie trailers DON'T use original music, as the film score is one of the last parts of the film to be completed during production. It's cheaper to "rent" music from a score library than to compose something new just for a trailer. It happens all the time, just usually with some lesser known themes. Am I the only one who remembers how many times we heard the Aliens or Terminator themes for action/sci-fi trailers during the late 80's and 90's?

Hate to admit it guys, but I agree with KJ.... It is only early, but this trailer doesn't build confidence... Here's hoping that we get more info or a better trailer.

I think this girls not worth marrying. Doesn't make me want to root for the hero.

Still sword fighting is always fun, so I admit I'm interested. But this cast scares me. Seems like a pay off of big names to draw a crowd for a movie that doesn't pay off. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

I'm a fan of Neil Gaiman. Neverwhere is one of my favorite novels, and American Gods was good as well. Good Omens was supposed to be made into a movie, and that would be hilarious.

Stardust I own - someone got it for me for a present once - but I couldn't get into the story, only read a few chapters. So no opinion on this so far.
Good cast, though.

EDIT - ok, took the time to watch the trailer. I definitely deny that's the worst trailer I've ever seen. KJ, really, did you see the trailers for Castaway (where the whole movie was given away), for the Negotiator (where you were told a false story via clever cuts), or for Bridge to Teribithia, The Return, or The Messengers (all trailers that mislead you into thinking the movie is a much different genre than it is.)
That trailer was rough, but its also not been "released" I would guess. It's the kind of trailer used for market research - stuff I did for about 5 years. It really looks like what they use to test for "good scenes" for a final trailer
If I'm right, the borrowed music makes perfect sense. Even if that is the music used for the final trailer, Hollywood's been doing that forever. There was a time when every thriller used music from Predator or Aliens.

I've read Stardust in the original graphic novel form (haven't read the novelization) and it is one terrific story. It's vintage Gaiman, very complex, following several characters who's stories converge at the end. I'd be flumoxed how to put together a 2 minute trailer that would adequitely convey the story to a viewer unfamilliar with it.

And the woman with the chariot? She's a witch. I think 2 goats can pull the magic chariot. And that's hardly the most unbelievable thing in the story.

It's a fake trailer. Go to Neil Gaiman's website/blog and he talks about it there. It is a fan made one using unfinished CGI clips and Pirates music. The real trailer is due out in about 3 weeks, although he speculates that the company might now release the real trailer early because this fake one is making the rounds on the net and they don't want it to effect peoples view of the movie (because yes, it is a bad trailer) .

mallet...How can that be a fake trailer when it presents the footage that was shot for the movie with the actors in it? How did some a fan get his hands on footage in order to make this so called fake trailer?

I think it is a real trailer and Neil Gaiman is lying because he knows how awful it is by the responses he has gotten from it and actualy rushed to get it out there for people to see thus the pirates music and unfinished Cgi work...Just my theory because I can't see how any fan could have gotten his hands on parts of this movie considering the security measures they use these days to keep people in the dark until the actual movie is released or close to it...Unless he is apart of the crew or one of the film processors...Who knows, I think it is bullshit..

This movie sounds cool. I couldn't get the trailer to work. I'll have to use the computer at home for that. I just hope it doesn't turn out bad like Eragon did, where you had big names and lousy dialog.
