Scoop Feedback:
April 11, 2003... MONSTER'S BALL director Marc Forster is in advanced talks to helm STAY for Regency Enterprises. The psychological thriller with supernatural overtones had whetted the interest of David Fincher at one point.
David Benioff (THE 25TH HOUR) wrote the script which is about a college professor who tries to stop a student from committing suicide, and who then finds himself in the middle of bizarre and disturbing occurrences. (You can insert the spooky music here.)
Now that Regency has a director they want to get the project in front of cameras as soon as possible. After all, the company paid Benioff $1.8 million dollars for his script back in the fall of '01. [Source: The Hollywood Reporter.]
May 28, 2003... Scottish actor Ewan McGregor (DOWN WITH LOVE) is in talks to take the lead in STAY,
the much talked about thriller in development at New Regency Pictures. Written by David Benioff (THE 25TH HOUR),
McGregor's character is a professor at a Ivy League college whose life becomes surreal after he tries to prevent one of
his students from committing suicide. [Straight from Variety.]
June 11, 2003... Naomi Watts, who shot to stardom in David Lynch's MULHOLLAND DRIVE and solidified her presence in THE RING, will next star in Marc Forster's STAY. Watts will play the girlfriend of Ewan McGregor's psychologist professor character, a man who attempts to prevent one of his patients from taking their own life.
Filming begins in September. [The Hollywood Reporter.]
July 16, 2003... The Hollywood Reporter is running the story that Ryan Gosling (remember him as YOUNG HERCULES?) is looking at a role in the Marc Forster psychological thriller STAY. The project is casting up its parts, with Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts already committed to starring in the picture. McGregor plays a college psych professor who attempts to save the life of a suicidal student and then encounters bizarre events. It's likely the role that Gosling is thinking about taking is the disturbed student.
Filming kicks off in September. [THR.]
