Iron Patriot for Avengers 2?

According to USA Today

Recently USA Today caught up with the Iron Patriot (aka War Machine) Don Cheadle. USA Today spoke about about the recent Golden Globe Nomination and got a great scoop on the Avengers sequel. It appears that Cheadle will be Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Makes sense that he'd conserve his energy though, since he just wrapped the latest season of his Showtime series House of Lies, has a part to film in the next Avengers movie and then over the next few months will prepare to star in and direct a highly-anticipated Miles Davis biopic” - USA Today (seen here).

This is great news and an interesting twist on an already bloated cast. How much of the Iron Patriot, if it all, will we see in the film? Perhaps he will only be the Cheadle’s alter ego, Rhodes?

Avengers: Age of Ultron arrives May 1st, 2015.

Considering that the Iron Patriot armor is the only one still intact at the end of IM3 this makes sense. Rhodes will likely be taking Tony's place on the Avengers, at least temporarily. He'll probably be killed or severely injured by Ultron.

Ummm don't care for the Patriot, can we call him War Machine again?

redvector, I assumed the same thing at the end of IMI3. I figured that Tony Stark would just be Tony Stark and Rhodes would be The Iron Patriot. Kind of a role reversal.

redvector good point, hadn't really thought of that.

Maybe Ultron will do enough damage to IP that he ends up being the cyborg he is now

War Machine takes IM's spot in The Avengers, Jarvis gets PO'd that Stark destroys all the suits so he creates his own, Ultron kills or captures WM as an act of revenge against Stark, IM rejoins The Avengers to take down Ultron and his sentinels.

Just thinking but in Iron Man 3 the Mark suites could pretty much function by themselves. What if Tony develops some kind of A.I. software and uses the only operational suit available the Mark 2 / War Machine/ Iron Patriot and creates Ultron so being Iron Man would no longer be necessary. Probably not but just a thought.

The only person that belongs in the Iron Patriot armor is Norman Osborn.  The only other suit of armor that has the same paint scheme in the iron man canon of characters is Detroit Steel.
