Steven Spielberg has selected a now untitled sci-fi film to direct for Paramount Pictures.

The film is said to explore Caltech physicist Kip Thorne's theories of gravity fields. More specificaly: the film will explore the mind-bending territory of black holes and gravity waves and touch on some of the hypotheses that Albert Einstein chased but never could prove. The concept has been described as in the vein of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The film is a long way off, likely 4 years until it hits theaters. There is no screenplay, just a treatment written with the help of producer Lynda Obst.

It was also reported that Spielberg is picking between INDIANA JONES 4 and a yet untitled Abraham Lincoln biopic for his next project.

Nice... I'm just happy to hear that Spielberg is planning on doing another Sci-Fi film. This has a cool premise and I will be particularly interested to see the take on black hole exploration. Cool!

C'mon Mr. S, a movie on Lincoln can wait; he's been dead a looooong time. Indy can't wait much longer!

Picking?
He better do IJ:IV or not bother with it at all. Its at the breaking point as far as I'm concerned. It either gets out by '07 or it shouldn't happen at all. Cause if not will be hearing about "its next, IJ:IV is next."

I would assume he will do IJ4 unless it falls apart again, in which cast the Lincoln Biopic will be his fall back and another attempt for an Oscar.

It also should be noted that this film could deal with wormholes and time travel, but noone really knows as of yet.

Is there any other movie that fans are clammering to see as much as IJ4? As much as we all complain about the lack of originality in Hollywood, we are begging for a 3rd sequel! Spielberg is "picking"?! I agree w/ Wes, Lincoln is long gone and can wait.

Couldn't Indiana Jones go back in time and shoot Abraham Lincoln? It could add in all the Einstein theories it wanted. He could be trying to steal his hat, or something. Everybody wins (except Lincoln).

We don't need an Indiana Jones 4 (and do we really need to refer to sequels as "IJ:IV", "MI:III", and "X3"? Its a message board, you're not typing this fifty times.)

Three movies are good enough, and you're not going to get any new fans with a forth. Frankly, you lose more with each sequel (I think its called the Law of Diminishing Returns). I'd rather Spielberg try something new (newer) in a Lincoln biopic than this thing that doesn't have a script yet.

There is one exception to the law of diminishing returns...And that is STAR WARS. There are many theories behind why the SW series actually increased in box office gross. Be it inflation or a new generation of fans...Most feel it's because Lucas let the fans stew for over 16 years...

Look at Star Blech...(Trek) for a minute...it's been a relentless grind with each film and series getting further from the main fanbase.

I think IJ4 would set records if it came out today, however, it's not going to be very believable if HF is 70 when it's filmed.

I loved the Indiana Jones films but I am happy and satisfied with the way it ended in Last Crusade. If the fourth chapter nevers sees the light of day, I'm not worried at all.

I would much rather have no fourth film that one we all snap and whine about that didn't measure up to today's standard.

I did like Speilberg's "War of the Worlds" except for a few scenes and I look forward to his Black Hole project. As slow as it was, 2001 remains a fascinating wonder (and I love the sequel 2010 as well).

Does Spielberg have ADD or something? He is constantly announcing his "next big project," then does nothing for 6 months until we suddenly hear that he's been working on a different movie for the past year and the one that we were anticipating is either in Development Hell or being done by someone else. Jeez, that was a run-on sentence...

I recently got to see Raiders playing at a local theatre, it was great to see it on the big screen. I would love to see another Indy film made, but I have been reading rumors about this Lincoln film for quite a while. I read a couple times that Liam Neeson was up for the role of ol honest Abe.
