Ray Stevenson has been set to star in another comic adaptation hitting the silver screen. The actor who played the Punisher and most recently appeared in Thor has been set to become one of the first lead villains in Paramount's untitled G.I. Joe sequel. The trades report he will play COBRA operative Firefly, joining the previously confirmed stars Channing Tatum (Duke), Ray Park (Snake Eyes), Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock), Byung Hun-lee (Stormshadow), Elodie Yung (Jinx), Adrianne Palicki (Lady Jaye), RZA (Blind Master) and DJ Cotrona (Flint). Production on the sequel is set to begin shortly under the directing guidance of John Chu (Step Up 3D), based on a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

While we have no plot concept to pass along at the moment, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently told MTV Movies that Dwayne Johnson's Roadblock character will be a leading part of the story and "The ninja fans are going to love it. There's a tremendous amount of it. What's interesting is, we both have that going on in the Snake Eyes story, but we've found a way to bring that element into the Joes' story. I think anybody who's a fan of dark, in the middle of the night [action with] a dangerous foe arriving, this is a movie for you."

G.I. Joe 2 will arrive in theaters August 10, 2012.

Thanks to Chopsaki for the submission.

The Rock vs The Punisher. The more announcements they make the more I want to see this. Yeah I know I'm kind of weird, YO JOE

Pity they still have that crapfest called Tatum attached to it...hopefully they start over and revisit the Joes as they should be.

I like Ray Stevenson, I think he's a highly underrated actor.  Anybody who's seen Rome knows he's like Micheal Clarke Duncan, that rare Big Guy who can act.  Unfortunately, he probably won't get to that in Ninja Action Story...also known as GI Joe II.

Stevenson is a great addition! I have to agree with jedibanner, if they could just get rid of Tatum I'd be far more hyped about this movie.

Adrianne Palicki will look great as Lady Jay as long as she kills the blonde hair.  But where the heck is Scarlet?

I wasn't thrilled with the first but I am looking forward to this one just the same.

Oh and I have no problem with Tatum.  I don't think he's the horrible actor some make him out to be.  I thought he did fine.  Wouldn't have been my first choice, but he's no deal breaker.  Oh and I'll miss The Baroness too.

I may be able to endure Tatum...hopefully they don't bring back Marlon Wayans...he sucked so big in the last movie.  And the whole thing with him and Scarlet was so stupid.  SCARLET IS SNAKE-EYES'S GIRLFRIEND!  Don't screw that up...there's no need for it.

" Dark, in the middle of night action and ninjas" ?  Pass.

Stevenson does something great like Kill the Irishman and then will follow it up with The Three Musckematrix and G.I. Junk.  The Rock will do any movie that crosses his desk.  The rest of the cast, outside of Ray Park, are unknown to me.  Guess actors have got to eat.

That's bad-ass..

What sucks is Stevenson should have made a great Punisher.  Why can't they seem to get a good script for those films?  Pretty simple.  Make it gritty, violent and ground it in a recognizable reality (I refer again to Kill the Irishman.  Now that guy was a BAD ASS.)  I could care less if he finds a way to put a skeleton head on his chest.  Have the guy tattoo it on his body as a reminder that he is created for vengence.

I never really watched the GI Joe cartoon, but I'm surprised they had the characters dating each other.  All I remember is a guy with a buzz cut, a guy who looked like a white nija and the red headed chick.  And, that is because I had a copy of the first comic book.
