Summit Entertainment has cast Kristen Stewart in the lead for their upcoming vampire tale TWILIGHT, based on the best-selling book series by Stephenie Meyer. The main story is described as a Romeo & Juliet-like tale twisted with vampires as the centerpiece. The production company hopes to turn this into a franchise of films after the book series garnered popularity, topping the New York Times and Usa Today charts. The first book was adapted to screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg and will be directed by Catherine Hardwicke. Production will begin in Feb.

Plot Concept: Revolves around Bella Swan (Stewart), a 17-year old who becomes drawn to classmate Edward, who is a vampire. Their unorthodox romance puts her in danger when Edward's nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.

I have never read this book but the plot sounds like a teen oriented Anne Rice knock off.

Not the good Anne Rice books of the 80's and early 90's but the bad dozen or so that followed.

Specifically I am thinking of Vittorio the Vampire.

I never read any Anne Rice, but I remeber when I first saw Interview With The Vampire, I was really impressed. Although, I am sure that had to so with Neil Jordon and the actors, bt the story was also very good. If this movie is done right, it sounds like it could be good, or it could be a teenage pg-13 crapfest. Either way, i'll probally see it..lol

I remember some book reviewers saying that this was going to be the next Harry Potter in the sense of a series of books that was really popular with kids. Never read any, but that stuck in my mind. I guess we'll see how popular the series really is.

It sounds like Underworld without the leather, sex, and violence and set in HS. Okay, it sounds nothing like Underworld except I remember hearing that advertised as a Romeo and Juliet-type story with vampires and werewolves.

Seriously, if they don't kill themselves in the end, or if there's not some HUGE tragedy, please don't liken it to Romeo and Juliet. Liken it to Dirty Dancing. Because vampires and werewolves doing Dirty Dancing -- that's HOT and slightly more original. (And yes, I know there's not werewolves mentioned in this movie. I'm just saying).

So far I have read the first two book and am on the third and they are excellently written books. I saw a piece in my Time magazine and saw vampires and I have always loved vampire books, movies etc so I thought I would give it a whirl and I love the books. I have the final and fourth book preordered. This could be a total peice of garbage if not done right, but if handled with respect to the fans and author it will be a terrific new anthology of movies to look forward. I am thirty and did not realise that the books are aimed at a teen audience until I read more reviews but I love the series.
