Still no sign of a Spider-Man 3 Score Album

Christopher Young fans had good news and bad news last weekend. The composer had two films open in wide release – Curtis Hanson's gambling drama Lucky You (score CD out June 5th from Varese Sarabande) and Spider-Man 3, for which no additional description is necessary.

In its opening weekend, Spider-Man 3 managed to make $151 million, $36 million more than Young's previous top grosser, Ghost Rider (score CD released by Varese Sarabande), made during its entire stay in theaters, and Young even has a silent cameo in the film, standing next to a piano in a theater as Kirsten Dunst visits her producers the day after her Broadway debut.
That's the good news; the bad news is that, as with Danny Elfman's score for Spider-Man 2, director Sam Raimi brought in other composers to write additional cues. The opening music credits read "Original Music Themes by Danny Elfman" and "Score by Christopher Young," while the end credits list a great number of specific additional cues, by Deborah Lurie (who had previously adapted Elfman's music for Deep Sea 3D) and John Debney (who, like Young, provided additional music for Spider-Man 2), while there is also a credit for the reuse of Elfman's cues from the first two Spider-Men.

Even more frustrating, there has been no news of any CD release of Young's Spider-Man 3 score. The “music from and inspired by” song soundtrack (most of which contains songs that are not heard in the movie) has been released in various formats Warner Bros., but, unlike previous Spider-Man song soundtrack releases, contains no score music at all.

The movie scores a bit zero in my book. I wouldn't even say it scored because it was too limp.

I loved the movie, but 30 seconds into the movie i noticed that the music wasn't up to Danny Elfman's quality. I was very dissapointed by Young's score. The music was the only part of the movie I really didn't like so it's just as well that they aren't releasing the score on CD. No big loss really.

I'm the opposite. The Elfman music did nothing for me but I immediately found myself looking for the score by Young after the movie was over. Just never been an Elfman fan.

I agree with Deadgunslinger. Elfman is overrated.

The only thing that I really disliked from the movie was the score. Christopher Young it´s a capable composer but the way he used the Spider-Man theme and the temp tracks in the film just made the score to lack of coherence. John Ottman for instance was able to fully include John Williams themes and compose his own music and all worked great in Superman Returns. I vote for the return of Danny to the franchise.
