It stinks!

By: BRIAN THOMAS
Date: Tuesday, May 30, 2006

This month you can see the Colin Farrell meets the American aborigines movie THE NEW WORLD on DVD but you won't be able to smell him. Not so in Japan. Last year, showmen in Japan revived Mike Todd Jr.'s old Smell-O-Vision idea in two theaters when they released chocolate scents from under seats during screenings of CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, and last month theaters in Tokyo and Osaka sold out shows by giving viewers of THE NEW WORLD the scents of the deep woods.

Now, open the door to our Prize Closet and smell the goodies inside. We've got 5 copies of the funny but flawed spoof DATE MOVIE unrated to give away, courtesy of Fox. To enter either contest, you must send an email containing your name and address to psycho@psychotronic.info with the designated subject line "HANNIGAN".

We also have three copies of ALF Season 3, courtesy of Lionsgate. For this one make the subject read "ALF 3".

SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK

The seed that sprouted Video Watchdog magazine, which in turn bred a generation of more discerning videophiles and movie fans, began as an article examining the differences between the international blockbuster HERCULES as presented in various venues. This one's for Tim Lucas, and I can't wait to read his analysis.

(O) HERCULES / MOLE MEN AGAINST THE SON OF HERCULES (Retromedia) Steve Reeves in the original 1958 international blockbuster that started the peplum craze, presented for the first time on home video in widescreen. Plus, a weirder, lesser follow-up starring Mark Forest.

Does anyone remember that "smell" promotion Blockbuster tried a few years ago? They deployed certain scents for a given section of videos, like the smell of roses for the section with chick flicks, etc. I wrote in and suggested they use the scent of Strom Thurmond for Night of the Living Dead.

Oddly enough, they discontinued to promotion shortly afterwards. Odder still, Strom Thurmond finally dead not long after either.

By the way, Bo and Luke Duke may have been too dumb to use the doors on their car, but they were cousins not brothers.

mckracken • May 31, 2006, 03:15pm •
which season was it when they replaced both Bo and Luke Duke for the Faux Duke Brothers or Cousins? Was it six or seven?

• Jun 01, 2006, 08:44am •
I believe Bo and Luke were both cousins and brothers.
