The roles of "Storm Shadow" and "Scarlett" have been cast in G.I JOE, reports Latino Review. Kellvin says that Korean-born star Byung-Hun Lee will be playing Tommy S. Arashikage (aka Storm Shadow) while Rachel Nichols has been set to play Shana "Scarlett" O'Hara. To see some side-by-side comparisons of the duo along with character descriptions, click the LR link above. The two will be joining the previously announced Sienna Miller (Baroness) and Ray Park (Snake Eyes). Stuart Beattie adapted the screenplay while Stephen Sommers is set to direct for Paramount Pictures.

Plot Summary: The movie will be a modern telling of the "G.I. Joe vs. Cobra" storyline first told by Hasbro 25 years ago in their "Real American Hero" era of their G.I Joe action figure line. The premise of this fantasy is the story of the G.I. Joe team, led by Duke, and their "fight for freedom wherever there is trouble" against the evil Cobra Commander and his Cobra force. This storyline was an instant hit with kids in the early 1980s, spawning a highly popular 3-3/4-inch action figure line, comic book collection and animated series. The G.I. Joe team be based out of the "Pit" as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series. And, in keeping with the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra fantasy, the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world. Duke, the lead character and head of the G.I. Joe team, will embody the values of bravery and heroism that the first generation of G.I. Joe figures established.

G.I JOE will hit theaters August 7, 2009.

hmm....im not sure what to think because Ive never heard of either actors....but i guess he looks like storm shadow.....i wonder how hard it is to cast an actual japanese actor though....the japanese guy opposite andy lau from house of flying daggers comes to mind....he could be storm shadow....

as far as scarlett goes....im not really getting the whole tough girl persona from that picture....but i guess theyll save that for lady Jay....

She doesn't look tough, but you probably can't wipe the poop-eating grin off her face since she just got signed. Plus (maybe it's a bad picture), I always pictured Scarlet being drop dead gorgeous, but maybe that's just me.
Still glad they are getting on with the casting.

Well, Nichols definitely looks more like Scarlett in the pic on LR with the red hair. She`s tall enough and with some work in the gym, I don`t see why she couldn`t pull of Scarlett.
What I don`t understand is why they just couldn`t cast a Japanese actor for Storm Shadow. After all, well... he freaking Japanese, not Korean, Chinese, Thai, or any other Asian nationality. I wonder if anyone would be upset if they cast a Brit, Kiwi, German or Aussie as Flint, Duke, or General Hawk.

The 'Japanese guy' from House of Flying Daggers, is actually Taiwanese. He's only 1/4 Japanese, is a huge Chinese pop star, and casting Takeshi Kaneshiro would be expensive.

Besides, the Japanese people were originally from Korea. The native Japanise, the Ainu were overwhelmed by the immigrants from korea....who later, with bits of culture taken from China became the Japanese.

Don't worry according to this board it's ok to change where a character comes from like Abomination from Russia.

I am glad they are keeping this somewhat low budget for actors so far. Movies do better for me when they don't have a ton of money invested so we can have a sequel which we need on this type of movie.

Dazzler, you must love Uwe Boll movies then.

They both look like good choices.....I really don't see a problem casting a Korean as A Japanese person, nor do I see problem casting a Brit or Aussie as an American....it is acting, and as long as they "ACT" the part, there is no issue...I mean Ray Park is British, no?

Great choices - Both look the part and im glad its not some huge big named stars. I think they'll be great in the roles. Im just siked that Storm Shadow will be in this. He rules!

Whiskey, you are totally right. There is no problem with it. I just kind of find it hard to believe that there aren`t any good Japanese/ Japanese- American actors out there to fill the role. Obviously the dude they cast, was good enough to get the part.
