Hollywood Strike Rumor

Strike Memo of High Priority Movies?

By: Jarrod Sarafin, News Editor
Date: Thursday, September 13, 2007
Source: Comingsoon

Alright readers, I'm going to warn you now that this "memo" should be taken with a grain of salt. The reasoning behind that warning is we don't know how old this memo is..It could have been pulled together by the various studios rather quickly and might not be up to date. The films spotlighted in this internal document circulating many talent agencies could be just wishful dreaming on the studios' parts.

Still, we should start discussing the possibility of the impending Writers Guild, Directors Guild and Screen Actors Guild strike June 2008. The movies on this list are "high priorities" according to the Strike Memo and Comingsoon's sources...

Here's the highlights which can be found here.

Like you said, it should be taken with a grain of salt...Well see...

jdnobody • Sep 13, 2007, 09:52pm •
I can't say I know what this strike is really about, and I'm not saying that writers/directors/etc don't deserve to be treated fairly, but it's hard to think why people who make so much money anyway would bother striking??!?! Come on, there are a ton of creative type folks out here that would give their right eye to be able to do the jobs these guys have. What gives? Somebody explain?

videocide • Sep 13, 2007, 10:15pm •
There writiers strikes i think are related to money for the most part but i think they seek a bit more credit for films being made.
I know last time there was almost a strike one thing the writes wanted to change was "A film by director x" which they didnt win. They could be looking for more of that this time

kwsupes • Sep 13, 2007, 10:36pm •
I have a prediction to make when the so called strike is avoided a lot of these crappy movies will have to be dumped off somewhere because they won't be fit for release even on DVD so guess where they will be heading? Can anyone say SciFi Channel original movie? I thought you could.

What's the story on Alex Proyas on Dracula Year Zero on the Universal list? Proyas seems to me as a good pick for this movie as long as he keeps the same dark tone and mood he set in The Crow and Dark City.

I'm having problems with the definition of 'creative types' and the seeming repitition of retreads and old TV shows... Near Dark? Land of the Lost? Escape from Witch Mountain? The Day the Earth Stood Still? The A Team? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot OVER. At some point we lost the ability to say "the reason why Gilligan's Island was on tv was it wasn't worthy of a movie treatment!" Add to this the long list of 'hit' movies that have come out over the past few years. If it weren't for certain genre movies (Xmen, Spidey, Harry Potter) Hollywood wouldn't have ANY money to strike over...

My 2 cents worth...

2 things jumped out at me and slapped me in the face. 1) What the holy hell is Fred Durst doing directing a movie? 2) Why in God`s name and Satan`s handbag are they actually remaking Seventh Samurai?
Yes, I know it was made into The Magnificent Seven which in itself is a classic but to actually remake Seventh Samarai is so much bullshit! Has Hollywood no soul left?

DarkJedi • Sep 14, 2007, 05:47am •
Pony...

"Has Hollywood no soul left?"

I know that wasn't a serious question...and you already know the answer...Seeing how I had to write out a Joust movie story two weeks ago...Yes, you know the answer.

I'll still answer it though.

No.

Oh they have souls. They just get alittle scum coated now and then.
OK they get a lotta scum on 'em. It unfortunately comes about whenever large accumulation of power and money are available. It happens in big business and politics all the time. People will sometimes lie, cheat, steal, kill and generally crap on their fellow humanity for more P&M because in the back of their head they know they've got a finite time in the world and want to get theirs before they go. Like Thoreau said ,"The mass of men live lives of quiet desperation."
The challenge in life is to strive to be above that.
I better get off this soapbox before I get kicked off.

Myrddin • Sep 14, 2007, 10:44am •
I read last summer that the strike has to do with DVD royalties. Writers got to eat. :)

That's a long list of movies to get finished before June. Some of those are already being shot (James Bond for instance), but a lot of those aren't even offically in pre-production yet.

I'm looking forward to Scott's Nottingham and hope the rush to finish doesn't screw it up.
