Strong sales create BLACK HOLE

The American Film Market is the place where executives from film companies from around the world meet every year to see what new movies are being financed and that need more investment or distribution deals. Business cards are exchanged, drinks are bought and if everyone likes who they're doing business with, contracts are signed and deals are then announced to the trade magazines. Such is the case for today's announcement of Nu Image's BLACK HOLE feature film.

BLACK HOLE is a $3.5 million-budgeted science fiction project that stars original BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER babe Kristy Swanson and BREAKFAST CLUB graduate Judd Nelson. The movie postulates what would happen if a black hole was accidentally created here on Earth as a result of a scientific experiment gone awry. As befitting a project about a celestial object that is so powerful that not even light can escape it, the movie will be filmed in St. Louis.

So what happened at the AFM? Well, the project's owners had a strong showing of their package. Foreign sales for the film rights were better than expected by Nu Image, which gave them the confidence to bump up the start of filming from early 2005 to November 28. That's how it works in this biz.
