The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed what Robert Sanchez at IESB has been saying for quite sometime, that Beattie is attached. Still, a confirmation has been given and I'll pass it along to you to talk a little more G.I JOE on what could be a slow news day. According to the trade, writer Stuart Beattie (Curse of the Black Pearl, 30 Days of Night), will be taking up the writing duties in this adaptation for Paramount (and partner Hasbro). The studio is eyeing this live action film to hit theaters in the summer season of 2009. While no casting has been announced yet, the director will be Stephen Sommers and producers will be Lorenzo di Bonaventura & Hasbro's Brian Goldner.

Plot Concept: Based on the toy line and 80's animation, the Joes --featuring Duke as the leader-- coming from difference branches of the military face off against a sinister terrorist organization known as the "Cobra". Duke, Snake Eyes, Scarlett & fellow "Joes" must take out and do battle with the evil Destro, Cobra Commander, Baroness & many Cobra soldiers.

G.I JOE hits theaters everywhere Summer 2009.

Yo Joe! Just drop a ton of money on it for f/x and Snake eyes and Storm shadow fight to the death. No way a great story will come out of this.

Yeah, like the director Steve Sommers said, people just want the look and feel to be right. Plot gets pushed further down the line. It worked for Transformers. I'm not saying this is bad or good, it just is.

ooooh! I forgot about the Baroness! I hope they find someone good for the role & keep the costume and glasess! I think she was responsible for my early introduction into puberty so long ago in the 80's!

Plot Concept: Well, they got that much right. ;-p

The characters who NEED to be in this movie, and my humble suggestions as to who should play them:

Duke - Thomas Jane

Flint - Michael Biehn

Lady Jaye - Carrie Anne Moss

Snake Eyes - Ray Park

Roadblock - Michael Clarke Duncan

Cobra Commander - Gary Oldman

Destro - Michael Dorn

Baroness - Maggie Q

Xamot/Tomax - Albino twins from Matrix Reloaded

Storm Shadow - Will Yun Lee

rgchtiger,
Those are some really good casting suggestions. Not all of them, but most of them seem dead on. Just don't know about albino Xamot/Tomax
I hope we see the terror drome, and the Old school lookin GI Joe base with that giant cannon on the front.

I don't think Flint necessarily NEEDS to be in the movie. Even when I was a kid, I saw him for what he was: a fill-in for the episodes that Duke WASN'T in. And you HAVE to have Scarlet before Lady Jaye. As for Scarlet, I'd probably say Famke Janssen. And rgchtiger, I agree that Michael Dorn definitely has the VOICE to play Destro, but his acting outside of Star Trek hasn't exactly been stellar. I would say maybe go with Vinnie Jones, simply because I love all the badass characters he's played in the past. I would also go with Ving Rhames for Roadblock instead. I think Michael Clark Duncan just looks too...NICE, I guess.

Yeah ... those are some pretty good suggestions. I don't know about Thomas Jane though ... he doesn't seem rough enough for me. Ray Park is dead on for Snake Eyes. As for Storm Shadow, I'm not familiar with Will Yun Lee's work so I don't know if he could be evil enough, if you know what I mean. At first I was thinking of Collin Chou, from Matrix Reloaded as Seraph, but then I don't think his style is vicious enough. I'm thinking of an evil Bruce Lee. His style of Wing Chun had such an intensity that if he was evil I'd be a scary thing to watch.
I know that this is a little too much to be thinking about this title seeing as how they'll probably sign on a bunch of actors who are "hot" right now with the teenie boppers, make it PG-13, and show lots of flashy sfx to take away from the obvious lack of talent.

I'm not expecting a great movie here, but I'm hope it's a good one because I am so excited about this.

I was always a Flint fan growing up, so maybe I'm a little biased in having him appear in the movie. As for Scarlett, I would picture the likes of Jennifer Garner to play her in a movie and not Famke Janssen.

I think Ving Rhames is a little too...small to play Roadblock. Roadblock always struck me as a guy who was a lot taller than most other Joes, so whoever plays him needs to be equally taller. Duncan could pull off a badass in my opinion.

captmorgan, Will Yun Lee has been in a bunch of movies in somewhat small roles. The biggest movie I can think of he was in was Die Another Day where he played Zao. He was also Pezzini's partner in the television series Witchblade.

And I am all for the Terrordrome and The Pitt appearing in the movie too!!!
