IESB.net reports that Marvel and/or Sony are resuming activity on the long-planned 'Venom' movie.
The site says that "the studio" (presumably Sony, who would still hold the film rights to the character after its appearance in 'Spider-Man 3') has met recently with several "A list writers" about a spin-off film.
Longtime readers of this site know well that Marvel has tinkered with a 'Venom' film on and off since before Comics2Film went online in 1997. For years the film was set up with New Line Cinema with David Goyer penning a script for it. As some point in 2000 New Line put the property in turnaround.
Once the 'Spider-Man' franchise began to take form, Venom was rumored as a potential villain from movie one. The character finally made a disappointing appearance in last summer's 'Spider-Man 3' with actor Topher Grace playing Eddie Brock.
By the end of that movie Eddie Brock appeared to have died, so it's possible a spin-off movie would introduce a new version of the character. Of course, comic book logic could also allow Grace's character to be revived for the part.
