Studios Bidding for Mark Millar's WAR HEROES

Looks like War Heroes will be the next Mark Millar comic to get the big screen treatment, reports his official website. While director Matthew Vaughn is currently rolling production for Kick-Ass, the author says that studios have begun bidding for his six-part series. Here's what he had to say on it.

I was in London working (and hanging out with some MW buds) over the last couple of days, but War Heroes officially went out to the studios yesterday after a few weeks of informal chats. I woke up to find a cluster of emails from Martin Spencer, my agent at CAA, and my attorney Harris Miller.

The good news? Pretty much all the big guys in town are going in for this and things should really start moving in the next couple of days. Tony and I had a dream director in mind for the project and, weirdly, he was the first email, suggesting he directs if his production company gets their hands on the material. But three genuine heroes are already in the mix for this so I have a feeling we're going to end up in good hands.

After weeks of informal chats (we wanted to wait until issue two was actually in print and they had either script or full plot for the remaining issues) we're really going to MOVE now. It's going to be an exciting few days, I think. As ever, I'll keep you posted. But this is my last NEW Hollywood thing until the Spring. I've pretty much finished all my current commitments and want to get deep into Ultimate Avengers before I start up anything else.

Plot Concept: The story
takes place in an America not too far off from our own, when terrorism has scorched the Earth. Our once great nation has shattered into a bastardized, third world version of its previous self. When traditional tactics prove obsolete in this new country, America's military force turns to the last weapon with any hope of - superhumanity.

Interesting. I read the first issue and it’s good but didn’t make me go “Wow. They gotta make a movie out of this!” Millar could probably get his grocery list made into a movie at this point.

The first issue alludes to the US using False Flag operations to rally support for the Global War On Terror. If Wanted was any indicator that whole subplot will be lost for something more palatable for the masses.

Wow. I'm a huge Millar fan and all, but is this his third project to begin film adaptation before the series even finishes? I'm suddenly surprised 1985 doesn't have a direct to dvd animation coming out soon.

I'm avoiding this altogether. Millar's comments that he views this as his Ultimates 3 because this is more or less where he wanted to go just didn't fly with me. Sounds like he's using the Ultimates names to get people to jump to that book, so I'm withholding my money.

1985 isn't owned by Millar otherwise it would've been sold already. It's a Marvel owned book.

I'm waiting for the trade on this one, but it sounds a heck of a lot more interesting then Ultimates 3 (then again, anything sounds more interesting then that crap festival). Glad Millar's going back to the next incarnation for Ultimate Avengers.

Could be interesting. Right now, I'm more interested in Kick Ass. Everything I've been reading about that movie keeps making me more & more interested. I'm starting to really look forward to that one!

Wiseguy you’re being very unwise. Mark Millar doesn’t need to ( and I don’t think has previously) use(d) gimmicks to sell his work. His writing is above average, and I WAS blown away by this book. My only complaint would be that it was too short. But then thats one of the signs of a good story , leaves you wanting more. Mark Millar was simply speaking from his heart on the kind of direction he would have taken Ultyimates 3. AND THANK GOD ALL MIGHTY he is returning to a universe he helped establish so brilliantly!!!!!

Ultimates dies the day Millar left them, ULTIMATES 3 is dead to me, read 1 page and threw up all over it so I couldn’t finish reading it.

War Heroes is awesome, so far, 1 ish in, and I love kick -ass, hell the other week I left with 6 comics in my clutches and they were all written by Millar.

I do think it’s crazy that his work is optioning so quickly, but there are way WAAAAY worse comic writers out there getting their work optioned for TV and Movies , and they suck. So I guess it makes sense the Alan Moore of our day (without the tude) is selling like hot cakes.

This is an awesome comic, like all of Millar's stuff. I'll watch it.

I hope it's done realistic and not comic bookish.

gauley, I just don't follow writers around I follow the characters I like. Glad Millar is doing so well, he does great work for Marvel and I'll usually read anything he puts out for Marvel.
I wasn't that into Wanted, didn't think it was that good. Then again I don't get giddy over curse words like some may. Kick Ass I'm enjoying a lot.
Same thing with F.Miller, the only thing I read from him outside of DC or Marvel was SinCity but never felt like following his other works.
