When Tron: Legacy arrived in theaters there were rumors that The Black Hole would get a remake from Disney. The director of Tron: Legacy, Joe Kosinski (whose Oblivion arrives this month) was instantly attached to the project. Since then, The Black Hole has remained dormant. The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Prometheus co-writer Jon Spaihts has now been hired by Disney to kick start the project. Justin Springer, who produced Tron: Legacy will be producing The Black Hole remake as well.
The original “Black Hole was the most expensive movie Disney ever made when it was released in 1979 with a cast that included Maximilian Schell, Anthony Perkins, and Ernest Borgnine”. Check out the original trailer below for more details.
What do you think Maniacs? I personally love the original film but know it does have its flaws. I think the over all story, very much in the vein of a darker 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, is a great start. Let’s see how Oblivion does and Spaihts’ next project for Universal, a reboot of The Mummy.
